Did Tuvok fall in love with Janeway?

Nah, he knew he could never compete with that Oirish hologram, to be sure, to be sure.

Me neither.

He has sex or he dies.

You don't think T'Pel asked Kathryn to take one for the team?

"Please, if its no bother, would you save my husbands life, if it becomes necessary? Oh you are a dear thing. Thank you."

Then it's just stupid not to practice before Pon Far.

If Kathryn does the sex wrong... If she can't please Tuvok, then he still dies, even after she's given up the goods.

Having a lover die inside you is unpleasant.

Meanwhile Janeway's life is also in danger.

I doubt Mark could hammer a nail into a 2 by 4 with his penis.

Like I said, they might need months of constant practice to save both their lives.

I honestly don't see it happening. They were good friends, with Tuvok being a trusted advisor, but nothing more. Also, given Tuvok's morals it would be unlikely. Yes, he was tempted a few times (Noss, Marayna) but as far as I know, he never gave in.

Even when he needed to 'cheat' to save his very life, he still had to be convinced that a holodeck recreation of his wife didn't count as cheating, if memory serves me.

Even though it contradicted Bloodfever.

Vorik had no interest in holograms.

One possible reason is that Holograms are telepathically inert.

Half of a Vulcan's banging is done with their brains telepathically, which is something I read in a star trek novel long ago.

Actually, if a complex level of telepathy is required for basic entry level sex , then pedophilia must be almost unheard of on Vulcan.

Hmmm.

Amanda Grayson is telepathically inert.

Correct. Tom told him "it's not cheating if it's your wife".

Even though it contradicted Bloodfever.

We all know Tom was really good at holoprogramming. Maybe his facsimile was good enough to fool Tuvok's pon farr instincts.

Amanda Grayson is telepathically inert.

A Vulcan can mind meld with a human, though.

I think a lot of people here have a very two dimensional perspective of what love is.

I love my mother. I love my father. I love my brothers, my sister. Their partners and their children. I love them deeply. It doesn't mean I have a sexual desire towards them.

Recently, I got back in touch with a girl I dated for a while, and I loved her deeply back then. Things didn't end well, but we're back in touch now. We hug, we talk, we hold hands when we're in distress and need to share emotions with each other, as a sign of comfort. She needed to not be alone a few nights ago and asked if she could sleep over. We shared a bed together, but there was nothing physical.
I love her deeply. Just not romantically anymore.

Tuvok loved Janeway, intensely, in a way that he as Vulcan can. Vulcans ave emotions, they just acknowledge them quite differently. He has a deep desire that she is safe, happy and doing well in life. He has gone to great lengths for her well being. I think that's love alright.
It just doesn't mean he wants to pon-farr the hell out of her. ;)

We are very much programmed to link love with sexual desire and romantic relationship. It's more than that.

Telepathically inert is comparable to physically inert.

So theoretically I can make love to a woman that just lays there.

Maybe she's dead, or maybe she's bored, what's the difference?

Warmth.

I generally go by
"I love _________" could mean anything: romantic, platonic, familial, whatever. "I am in love with _________" means romantic. So under that definition, Tuvok did not fall in love with Janeway. But I certainly think he loved her.

See.... that's a much more precise way of saying what I did in my ramblings. Well done! :D

50 years as a writer. Well, 40-something anyway; I wasn't writing stories when I entered the world. They don't even let you have clothes in there, you think you're gonna get a pen and paper?

I never saw anything to suggest that their friendship went any deeper than normal friendship. Even when Tuvok lost his mind or became Tuvix with Neelix’s impulses, he never said or did anything to make us think he was in love with Janeway. Ethan Phillips said he played Neelix as if he were in love with Janeway, so make of that what you will….

Neelix told Q that he loved Janeway.

I always thought Tuvok and Janeway had more of a sibling type relationship. Not in the sense of lots of petty bickering like many real siblings are wont to do, but as grown-up, mutually respectful siblings. I never saw anything romantic there at all.
