Did the writers/producers/executives etc not want Janeway to meet Sisko because...

Even that time Admiral Kirk turned up on the Enterprise, Demoted Dekker, took his ship, and then sacrificed him to a Space God.

Can you imagine anything worse than being stuffed and trapped inside your spouse for a million years?

What chemistry would Mulgrew and Brooks have? The scenes between Picard and Sisko are compelling, but it seems that they exploit the tension between the actors, even in the end when Sisko shows some deference to Picard. Following from The Captains, I would suspect that Shatner and Brooks would have worked well together. Conversely, I could see PIcard and Janeway collaborating, and the two would work well together had they acted together at the same time. Shatner and Mulgrew seems like a disaster, especially after The Captains, where it seems at times the two talked past one another.

It's not that they would have been bad, it's just that they really had little to discuss. Sisko's feelings toward the Maquis didn't really heat up until Eddington turned on him. By comparison, the scene we got was perfect for Tom, Quark, and Harry.

Dined with a newly appointed Captain Janeway this night. Seemed like a nice person. I served her my jambalaya. 3 hours in the making, and with my peppers I've grown over the past few months. She asked me if she could have the replicator recipe, and she immediately added that she was disastrous with a replicator, having incinerated an entire pot roast only a few weeks before. Somehow, I don't think we're the same type. If she is as injudicious as a Captain, I fear she might get the ship lost somewhere in the galaxy on her very first trip or some such thing. Sisko out.

I could see a dinner between Sisko and Janeway happening off camera. Or maybe a breakfast meeting, with raktijino for him and black coffee for her. It would be cordial, witty, and perfectly platonic. Janeway had a fiancee at home, after all.

Sisko: Captain, might I offer you some reserve stores of coffee grounds, just in case. O'Brien always says it's a good idea to have a back up.
Janeway: Thank you, Commander, but I doubt we'll need it. Just have a fresh pot ready when I get back.

I can't really imagine Sisko using the phrase "some such thing", but otherwise that was pretty good. :)

What do you think Sisko would have said instead? (As a foreign speaker, I might learn from the answer, as I might not always be able to judge whether a style element 'fits' a character or not.

I've tweaked it in an effort to make it more consistent with what I remember of Ben's speech patterns, though it has been a few years...

Dined with a newly appointed Captain Janeway this night. She seemed nice enough. I served her my jambalaya. 3 hours in the making, and with the peppers I've grown over the past few months. I hope she's a better captain than a chef, or she'll get her ship lost halfway across the galaxy on her first trip. Sisko out.

I can imagine him fuming in the way that only Sisko knows how to do and saying "I KNEW it!" when news of Voyager's disappearance reached the station.

And the live coffee beans in Cargo Bay 5. Instead of looking in "that nebula", they could have grown their own.

Ah, thank you for your tweaks, much appreciated! Yes, I see how that would be better (besides the obvious errors such as if/whether, that's one I tend to overlook whenever I'm not paying enough attention)..

Not only that, Commander Sisko would actually do everything in his power to help Voyager if he was part of the story. He was a great character in the 1st 3 seasons of DS9, a great manager for complex situations.

In the very first episode of VOY when the ship disembarked from the DS9 station.

TNG got a sendoff from McCoy.
DS9 got a sendoff from Picard.
TNG movies got a sendoff from Kirk.
VOY got a sendoff from... Quark. :wtf:

Kor
It could have been worse. I don't remember if Worf was on DS9 at the time of "Caretaker" but if he was, and if he was the one meeting and greeting and looking down his nose at Tom and Harry, he would have found some pretext to board the ship and then he would have eaten another series.

Thank goodness for Quark.

Not really. He lost a close friend when his ship went missing early in the war, and he was helpless.
