Did the shows have too many cliffhangers?

Especially for season finales?
I think there's some consensus that most of them were just average and kind of obligatory.

I actually kind of hate ending a TV season with a cliffhanger in general, so manipulative, and yet I mind it a lot less and enjoy it a lot more when Trek does it which says something about how I prefer Trek to a lot of TV in general.

I liked the way DS9 did it. They didn't do cliffhangers for season finales, only for multi-parters during the season.

TNG (and VOY after it) got a little too finale-cliffhanger happy.

I thought Voyager had awesome two-parters.

Year of Hell, Dark Frontier, Future's End, Scorpion, Equinox...

IMO, the problem with many of Voyager's two-parters was that Part 1 was often awesome set up while Part 2 was meh with a rushed ending. Equinox and Flesh and Blood were pretty good, though.

Time's Arrow and Descent felt obligatory and didn't really warrant being season ending cliffhangers but they were good episodes aside from that.

In the case of Time's Arrow, the plan was originally not to end season 5 on a cliffhanger. But when word of DS9's development got out, it generated rumours TNG was ending, and so it was decided they had to end the season on a cliffhanger just to send a message they were returning next year.

I didn't know that! Thanks:beer:
