A rare victory for our side.My kids (13 yo girl and 6 yo boy) watched the reboot/kelvin timelines and then they got curious about the original series crew and finally they asked to watch the other series as well. Both are now little trekkies, following me, instead of following my husband who is more into Star Wars.

As far as toys go, Trek suffers from blandness and sameyness compared to Star Wars. Series characters tend to look the same except for slightly different heads, and subtle uniform variations. There are only two iconic Trek ships (Enterprise type and Klingon type), and the Enterprise isn't especially dramatic-looking. As regards play sets, you just get standard bridges, or maybe a transporter pad, possibly sick bay; no really interesting settings in which to stage your characters.
I'm hoping the new series will change this, by making the clothes more varied and exciting, and creating some iconic locations (where interesting action is staged) to be reproduced in miniature form.
