So I'm curious as to see if people in this forum enjoyed this movie less or more than they were expecting. I've added a generous set of poll choices but a bit of exposition on your part would be nice too.

Also, just a simple request, if you're tempted to reply to somebody and start one of the 200 or so rehashed discussions that hijack every thread here (i.e. canon, ship design, etc.), please take a moment to consider just how strongly you feel about what you're saying. Let's avoid the rehashes if we can. Personally, I'm looking forward to reading about how people's experiences clashed with their expecations, more than I do those. But that's just me. :) I think more importantly though, we have a grading thread that deals at length with the movie itself. I want to talk more about you. ;) :p

As far as my experience went:
I guess I was a tiny, wee bit less satisfied that what I was expecting but I still thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The moments that sort of went against what I was expecting were the "all-american-hero" George Kirk scenes and the whole universe break thing. With the latter, I guess I was hoping to see the back story of "original Kirk" than a "nuKirk", but I can see why they did it (I haven't actually watched TOS a lot so I didn't see differences in the storylines before). And this way maybe we get a reboot Voyager someday that satisfies its premise even more (please don't flame me, I'm just a VOY nut :D). With George Kirk, it seemed too "Pearl Harbor"-ish for my tastes. I guess you gotta expect a certain level of kisch and cliche from Trek though. Don't know what I was thinking there. ;)

I voted Expectation Positive - After Watching Positive

Re: Did the movie challege your preconceptions? (good or bad) And when

I was pretty pessimistic about this movie until the wave of adulation rolled in. I went in expecting to be pleasantly surprised. Ultimately I was surprised, but it wasn't pleasant. I was shocked at just how shallow and preposterous this movie is.

I thought it was going to kick ass and it did. So yeah. Poll option #1, please.
