Did the Enterprise stop the mirror universe from happening ?

It really would be kind of cool to see a historical timeline of the MU. You could even envision a documentary-style miniseries on CBSAA, looking like a real documentary, but based on the history of Earth and the Terran Empire in the MU.

That would be a lot of fun!

I saw a fan-made one a long time ago, around when Enterprise was on. I think one of the RPG sourcebooks from around then had one, too. Let me see if I can find it...

Ah, here it is. Looks like it was updated to take into account the Enterprise MU episodes, but predates Discovery (it also doesn't take into account any of the more recent MU material from the novels, though there are references to some of the older Shatner-penned books).

A few years ago I typed up some MU versions of TOS episode synopses, just for fun. Just trying to imagine what TOS episodes may have been like in the Mirror Universe that would put the MU Enterprise crew in the right place and time to exchange places with the Prime Universe crew. I'll dig it up and post a thread over in the Fan Fiction Forum.

TNG's "Parallels" is widely considered an exception to Trek's usual time travel "rules", in suggesting every slight difference creates a splinter parallel universe of its own, but the JJ Abrams movies run with this theory also.

Yeah, I think that Trek generally just changes its time travel "rules" based on whatever works best for its current story, which is a smart way to go about it, I think. Can you imagine trying to keep how time travel works consistent over dozens of stories by dozen of different writers for 50+ years?

The Borg and Picard did not create the mirror universe, but they did cause a time divergence which directly leads to the ENT series, the pre-Kelvin universe, the DSC series, a very similar but different TOS universe (not the TOS series), and lastly, the TNG series. Nero just caused a second time divergence in the already diverged time stream with the attack on the Kelvin.

No, TNG is regular canon and they say this season of DSC they will tie it in better to cannon. Although I won’t hold my breath.

well we all know that in FC that the enterprise goes back in time to stop the Borg from interfering with the timeline. And In the course they interact with zeframe Cochrane. Also. They told him that the Vulcans are friendly and they are not here to inslave earth. In the mirror universe when the Vulcans land the Cochrane just shoots the Vulcans and raids there ship thus starting the beginning of the Terran empire. So the question is did the enterprise e crew cause the “bad” universe not to happenby tell Cochrane the Vulcan are good people. I mean Cochrane was a little crazy and I’m sure he watched alien takeover movies so the fact he would shoot aliens that could takeover earth in its very weaken state is plausible. How could the enterprise E crew original first contact when they wouldn’t be alive? Well as captain Janeway would say “Time travel. Since my first day on the job as a Starfleet captain I swore I'd never let myself get caught in one of these godforsaken paradoxes - the future is the past, the past is the future, it all gives me a headache.”

I often wonder why most people say "the" mirror universe. Couldn't there be several?

The theory as I understand it is that ever alternate reality has its own "dark version" or Mirror Universe, if you will. The Mirror Universe we see on screen is the Prime Universe's dark realm, so therefore we call it "the Mirror Universe" because its our Mirror Universe. Just like if you have a pet dog you call it the dog as opposed to a dog.

Wait a minute. So both Spocks do say that the Cochrane meeting with the Borg and Picard did create a time divergence? And this was or was not the creation of the mirror universe? If not, then I have both Spocks on my side!

Cochrane flipped a coin to decide whether or not to change history by warning the Vulcans about the Borg. When he kept his mouth shut, our universe proceeded normally. When he told everyone about the Borg, it started Earth and Vulcan on a more militant path that culminated in the creation of the Terran Empire.

Personally, I prefer the theory that the MU and RU have always been equal and opposite, moving in sync, and there's no point of divergence.

Exactly my thoughts. The ENT opening from the two mirror episodes showed WW2 and moon landing with the Terran Empire, so, it was long in existence by the time of Cochrane.

I just thought there could be more than one similar but not the same universes.

It wasn't a "time" divergence but in that story the histories were very similar until that point.
