Did JJ get it RIGHT? (Silver and not gold on uniforms)

From the pictures and videos I've seen, it' looks like the rank stripes and badges are SILVER and not gold, like on TOS.

Okay. Altered timeline. Fine. Different choices.

I was watching THE CAGE again this afternoon, and realized something...

It looks like on the Pike era uniforms, the rank stripes were SILVER, at least on the jackets.

Once I saw that, it made me wonder just how dismissive these guys were of existing Trek history, and how much of it they really drew on in revising the universe. (They may have been "loyal" to a far greater extent than a lot of us realize.)

Can anyone confirm for me what I saw (someone who's seen THE CAGE in high def, maybe), that the stipes ARE silver, at least on the jackets? (Feel free to mention the stripe and badge color on the regular shirts too.)

I think I read in an interview on Trekmovie with the costume designer that he wasn't a Trek fan, and that it was only through a discussion with JJ that he decided that using the original uniforms as a basis for the new ones was best. It's possible someone walked up and said, "Hey, I want you to use these cool Cage-era silver stripes", but I doubt it. He probably just felt silver to be less gaudy.

It's a happy coincidence, though.

I think they did their homework, at least Orci and Kurtzman did. I believe in the Trekmovie interview they remarked that all choices were deliberate. I suppose they had an influence on the aesthetic as well.

It's true all choices are deliberate, because if they weren't they wouldn't be choices.

Although you might not deliberate about your choices! :)

Should have said "changes" I suppose.

I don't know, a lot of incursions get passed him.

You'd think his slipping productivity at work would have clued someone at Starfleet Temporal that he was losing it.

Starfleet Temporal, just like most of Starfleet is vastly incompetent anyways. The reason being that they're not main characters.

you know i thought the fabric choice was odd .. but then look at the fabric for finnegans tunic.

even with the altered time line thing i could see these uniforms fitting in ...
unlike certain hostess stations
:p

You know if you step back and quint a little this thread kind of looks like a parody

I mean it's such a minute detail...

The Enterprise isn't built from scratch. They went the Star Blazers route. The bridge is actually from a 23rd century Denny's. So the hostess stations make sense!!! :p

well they better still be making scramblers...
:p

hmm the restaurant not yet at the end of the universe.

Cool, they also recycled the movie opening theme from starblazers as well!

The NuEnterprise, also in the spirit of Starblazers, used the Edsel as the base chassis for the engineering hull. (Don't maul me! I don't mind the design!)

Yeah. Silver doesn't mesh as nicely with the Command shirts as gold did, but it's pretty much a Whatever item.

Did you really want them to use elastic bands from the Desilu mail room and paint them gold, which is what was originally done?
