Did I make a good choice?

I've never read any Trek literature before but I ordered five books recently based on my husband's and other forum goers' suggestions. Here's the list:

Imzadi (TNG)
Vendetta (TNG)
Worlds of Deep Space Nine #2: Trill and Bajor (DS9)
Unity (DS9)
The Lives of Dax (DS9)

For those of you who have read any of the aforementioned books, did you like them? Was there one you preferred over the others? Which would you recommend that I read first? Please no spoilers (or at least tag them as such)!

All were good reads. I think a newcomer to Trek lit would like Imzadi and Vendetta the best so I would start with those.

Worlds of DS9 might be a challenge since it is a part of an on going story and you would be jumping in mid way through.

I'm assuming you're a Trek fan with at least a passing familiarity with the shows and characters. If so, three of those are good solid choices.

Unity and Worlds of DS9 #2 however, while awesome titles, really are part of an overall, arcing storyline that might be like trying to jump into the third Game of Thrones book without reading the first two. Worlds of DS9 #2 maybe not quite as much but this definitely applies to Unity, at least in my opinion.

All five are good solid reads though.

In the future, you can always check out 8of5's awesome, and huge, Star Trek Lit-verse Reading Order Flow Chart a try. It's a really super resource to try and figure out what relies on previous novels and what stands alone.

Yes, Unity and Worlds of DS9 - Trill are part of the DS9 relaunch and feature new characters (most of them you will like, I'm sure).
The TNG novels are a good choice.

It would have been easier with Crucible - McCoy (which could be ordered later on). For the Crucible Trilogy the TOS episode The City on the Edge of Forever is essential.

Let us know if you like the novels in the "So what are you reading" thread. :)

Imzadi is fantastic, one of the best trek books there is, and Vendetta is very good.
Unity is average-to-poor, never read lives of dax or trill/bajor.

I haven't read the others, but Imzadi is one of my absolute favorite books of all time, and Vendetta is also a lot of fun. For the most part, I love all of Peter David's work.

Imzadi is great.
Everybody else already covered the issues with Unity and WoDS9#2.
I haven't read Vendetta, and I've only read a couple stories in LoD.

All of the books are good. The lives of Dax and The Trill story in worlds of ds9 and Unity areof part the ds9 relaunch stories. Imzadi is one of my favorite books by Peter David about Riker and Deanna troi's complicated relationship and in Vendetta Borg story is really excellent story telling.

If you like Imzadi, there is also Imzadi II, also by Peter David. Following up on this would be logical :vulcan:.

I'll definitely hold off on Unity and Worlds of Deep Space Nine until I get the other books then. Thanks for the flow chart, bfollowell! And yes, I've actually seen nearly all Trek series and movies and rewatched almost every series but I have not watched TAS yet.

My husband has been trying to get me to read Imzadi for months now. I'm excited to finally start it!

Btw Kilana I'm totally rewatching the episode with Kilana in it right now! :P

`I´reappear in Christopher's Myriad Universes story `Places of Exile´. Maybe I should change my location, because it has to do with that story.......
And `I`m´mentioned in the DS9 Millenium Trilogy. Had a good time with Weyoun....

I haven't watched TAS, too. But I don't have problems with the novels featuring TAS `elements´. To each his own.
