Did Han and Luke eat the Tauntaun?

The Wormhole

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
So what did happen the morning after when Luke woke up from sleeping inside the tauntaun? He and Han would need breakfast, there's a perfectly dead tauntaun laying right there that's already been cut up. It's not doing anyone else any good. Would they have eaten it? Should they have eaten it? What are your thoughts on this matter, and what would you have done were you in this situation?

No. Luke was only in that thing long enough for Han to build the actual shelter. If Han's kit had a shelter, it also likely had a ration pack (and we later see how compact such things are when Luke gets to Dagobah).
Even if it didn't, those things stink to high heaven, and one assumes they don't taste any better than they smell, so they'd have to be borderline starving to even consider it an option. They were only out there for one night; not nearly enough time to get more than somewhat hungry. Even if for some insane masochistic reason they did want to try it; it would have been frozen solid in a matter of hours, and *raw*. Bugger that for a game of conkers!

P.S. No, before anyone suggests it; you couldn't "cook" the meat by using the lightsaber to slice off steaks. Anything hot enough to liquefy most metals on contact would only burn the meat, not cook it. Your steaks would be un-minced tauntaun tartare wrapped in charcoal. Even if you managed to swallow it, it wouldn't stay swallowed for long. Also; food poisoning! I do not recommend risking dehydration when one is already hypothermic. Very bad life choices.

The NPR radio adaptation of Empire had a scene with Luke and Han inside the shelter. I don't recall if they mention food or not.

They had only been gone roughly 12 hours. I mean, the real question we should be asking, is why didn't Han go all Donner Pass on Luke?

This is interesting. And I'm not being snide. I can imagine someone writing an AU fan fiction story about this.

Now I can't help but picture a stand up comic who's whole routine is based around jokes that always end with "and on Kashykk they call it (a bunch of random noises)".

Dane Cook in "Simon Sez" comes close.
