Did Daniels not realize that Hoshi Sato was important to history too?

So, something odd I noticed about the exchange between Daniels and Archer in “Zero Hour.”

Daniels, in an effort to make sure that Archer doesn’t die on the Xindi weapon, suggests that neither Reed or Sato are important to the future of humanity and they should be sacrificed over him. Which is pretty shocking, particularly in regards to Hoshi.

She is the inventor of the universal translator, which allows for diplomacy of other species, which in turn allows the Federation to grow in numbers. We see the first steps towards a universal translator – and the Federation – occur during the Coalition of Planets conference, which takes place a whole year later after the Xindi crisis. If anything, this makes her just as important to the founding of the Federation as Archer and one of the most important members if the crew. Not to mention that Hoshi is one of Archer's closest friends.

So why did Daniels disregard that? Did he really believe that the future would not be significantly altered if she had died and wasn't the inventor of the universal translator?

Hoshi didn't invent the Universal Translator, it had been invented prior to Enterprise's departure in 2151. What she did do was create a matrix which allowed the UT to decipher languages quicker. The underlying technology probably came from the Vulcans considering they've been encountering other cultures for hundreds of years at this point. Chances are that if Hoshi had died another earth linguist would have developed the matrix, or the Vulcans or Andorians may have assisted in the creation of a matrix.

Yes, that what I meant, the lingacode translation matrix. Also, the universal translator wasn’t something that was wearable on clothing until that Coalition of Planets conference. So she sets in motion what will later develop into the combadge of the future.

Still, Daniels was quite dickish to tell Archer to his face that it would be preferable that his close friend should lose her life over his.

Maybe, but The Enterprise crew were getting by without the Lingacode and The Vulcan's clearly already had the technology. Even if they didn't eventually share it with Earth, someone else probably would have figured out the technology eventually. UT tech probably became even better thanks to multi-species input when the Coalition was formed. Either way Hoshi's contribution was deemed an acceptable loss to the timeline. Archer is literally the guy that brought species who had been at each others throats for centuries together and turned them into a coalition of planets.

If Archer dies the Federation never happens and the Alpha quadrant probably ends up controlled by the Romulans or The Klingons and eventually the Borg. If Hoshi dies, it takes a little longer for the lingacode and commbadges to be invented. Archer is responsible for trillions of future lives and 1000 years of future history, Hoshi isn't. Daniels was right.

Not to cut Hoshi completely back, what she did was pretty slick.

But it just isn't on the same level.

Hoshi and Archer both died in Episode 11 from the historical perspective of the first iteration of Daniels that we met. No Hoshi and 900 years later the Federation is fine.

The Vulcans do not share ####.

The first captain was likely to do that, regardless if it was Archer, Robinson, or Hernandez. Provided they live long enough to bring those species together. Not to take anything away from Archer.

Which suggests Archer doesn’t really matter at all in the grand scheme of things, if the Federation still forms without him and is fine 900 years later.

11-12 episodes (as the following episode takes place a week before episode 11) is a really short run. 5 months to be precise.

Whole series primere on how when archer was removed, Earth became a wasteland, and no federation. Daniels was acting in that reguard.. as in, it'll be a blip if Hoshi or Reed were to die, they would be easier to replace, but if Archer kicked it.. then the whole thing would colapse because, yes, others could have moved forward, but all the good will was made by archer, so.. andoria and vulcan would be at war, romulan subterfuge would have worked and kept the quadrant in a morase.. and a steadly expanding Romulan Empire, with Earth easy pickings with only Earth and a few ships.
So yeah.. 1 man made the difference..
Think T'pol in command.. Xindi destroy earth and iradicate all humans. so..

Not necessarily Robinson and Hernandez would most likely have made different choices resulting in different outcome. For example neither of them may have been able to gain Shran's trust and respect. No Archer means no Federation. End of story.

Probably at that point Hoshi had done enough work that someone else could step in working from her notes and create something similar in the same amount of time. Meaning Hoshi's contribution to history had essentially already been served, from a certain point of view.

Background graphics that were never made to be seen up-close (and was Hoshi's even seen? Or just made and left unused?) aren't exactly canon.

Hoshi was gone for ten years.

In the final, she goes back to finish the class, with the same students, she was teaching in the pilot.

She had no peers, becuase Hoshi stopped training the next generation, so they had a long lunch.
