Did Bakula drag down IAMD?

I thought Bakula did fine. Mirror Archer really seemed to be a psychotic personality more than simply Evul.

This. The whole point wasn't to show an Evil version of Jonathan Archer, but a pysychotic and completely incompetent one.

^^^I thought Forrest staying on the bridge and "buying you some time" while his crew evacuated was very un-mirrorish and quite noble. Also, it presages George Kirk's sacrifice in ST09.

This doesn't bother me. The point of the Mirror Universe isn't that everyone is "pure evil," just that they're somehow different from their "normal" counterparts and have skewed moral compasses.

In Mirror, Mirror, Spock, while still an a more evil version of Normal Spock, was still an honorable man. Also, the Mirror Halkans were virtually identical to the Normal Halkans.

Even in the DS9 Mirror Universe episodes (which some people - not me - think were ridiculous) the mirror versions could be honorable people. Just look at Mirror O'Brien, or Mirror Rom, or Mirror Brunt. If fact, I think the biggest mistake DS9 made with the Mirror Universe was not showing us Mirror Dukat - a man who was honorable and good in an evil universe while Normal Dukat was an evil man in a normal universe.

And Mirror T'Pol was not evil either. Can Vulcans be evil? Oh yes - P'jem.

Yeah, yeah, I totally get that he's "opposite"... so therefore not a pompous, self-important cantankerous old Vulcan.

I - Surak - will notify the Vulcan High Command to inform Soval about what is being said on this board about him.
He will not be pleased to be called "old".

:rommie: You do that. He is by human standards. :p

ETA: LOVE the avatar. I almost wore a similar one:

But I went with her scream from Impulse instead. ;)

The colors in your version make her look even creepier. Nice!

Thanks. Photoshop and me are great friends. ;) You are more than welcome to borrow it if you'd like. :D

OT: At what point do you think Archer actually snaps? When Alt-Archer starts speaking to him? I personally don't think the full snap-age happens until he incinerates Black.

I think Mirror Archer snaps when he realizes that he's not going to keep Defiant.

He seems to be very hung up on getting approval from others--even his mirror self. When he realized that wasn't going to happen, he just snapped.

When I first saw this, I thought that Hoshi killed Archer. But I agree with JINXed that she probably kept him alive to taunt him. When you consider that they wanted to do more MU episodes, it only makes sense that they'd keep everyone alive. I don't think any of the major characters were shown dying on-screen: Reed, as we know, could have gone either way (I don't believe I just said that), and Phlox just looked like he was knocked out.

IIRC, that is when he kills Black. Archer has a tenuous hold on reality until that moment, I think. (Despite imagining his doppleganger taunting him.)

Of course, they'd keep everyone alive had the series been allowed another season or three. *grin*

Otherwise, as I said, I imagine Archer as dead... Reed makes a comeback and Phlox and T'Pol are executed as examples for the rebels. Unless, someone rescues them. I hold little hope for Phlox, but T'Pol might get lucky if MU Tucker still wants her after what she did to him. :p

I absolutely loved the first episode of IAMD, but in the second episode when Archer really started to go completely wacko I thought Bakula's performance was just awful. It made me cringe ... it ruined the episode for me, actually. I couldn't believe how much I liked the first part, and hated the second.
