In a new interview, Van Dyke revealed that after Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 1968, Broccoli asked him to take over the 007 role from Sean Connery.
“Have you heard my British accent?” Van Dyke recalled in an interview for Today what he told Broccoli after he asked.
