Diane Neal exits Law and Order: SVU

I didn't see the episode but it's interesting that there is legal precedent then for the fact that a woman can rape a man. I always believed that it was possible, just not very common. Can anyone give me a hint as to what happened in the show?

A bunch of women got together for a bachelorette party and assaulted the stripper. Later one of the women turned up dead. Neal's character killed her (the murder victim was into autoerotic asphyxiation, and the rig was altered to fatally strangle her).

I never really cared for her, so it won't be that big of a deal. I think the cast is a little convoluted now anyway... they should just bring in a rotating cast
of ADAs.
They did that in the first season including Abbie Carmichael from the original series and Reiko Alyesworth guest starring a few times.

CI dumped the ADA all together. Does SVU really need one?

Also, for my money, the best-looking ADAs were March and Hennessey.
Add Jamie Ross and Casey Novak when she had red hair and I'll agree.

One cool twist was that all three of the women involved were high class professional women. One was a doctor, one a lawyer IIRC.

Yup, and that one lawyer was the one who represented the three, so the cross examination of the victim was quite interesting.

the cross examination of the victim was quite interesting.

How can you cross examine a victim? That wouldn't last long. ;)

The female rapist/lawyer cross examined the man she helped rape.

Incidentally, Diane Neal's character pled guilty to rape and murder then testified against the rapist/lawyer at the rape trial.

The rapist/lawyer was acquitted of rape. But she was then charged with the murder of the third member of the group and was offered the same time in prison that Diane Neal's character got. Twenty years IIRC.

Unfortunate. I was really starting to like her character. This and the recent announcement that

A major character will die in the Season Finale

has me not too excited about TV.

Hmmm...that's rather surprising news, but I trust Ausiello on this matter. I wonder why she got fired. :(

I may have to call shenaningans on this. There hasn't been an ADA actor *fired* from L&O since Richard Brooks, and that only happened because NBC forced Wolf to add women to the cast. Since then, every actor who has ever left L&O has done so on their own accord (except maybe for Chris Noth, I'm not sure why he left).

^ Chris Noth's contract expired, but the bottom line is that Wolf didn't want him back because his character was becoming too popular on a supposedly actor-proof show. And actor-proof is a term Wolf has used about his shows.

Yeah, Wolf isn't keen on character development and is more interested in the stories. He considers Lenny Briscoe crying over his daughter's dead body a low point for the series.

Do you really think that's the case here, though? I've been out of touch with the latest episodes of SVU, but I'm pretty sure the only episode where Casey had any sort of character development was when she got jumped in her office. And it's one thing to fire an actor if you think the show needs shaking up, but considering how SVU is the top show of the franchise, why mess with what's working?

No, I don't think that's the case here, I was merely explaining the previous situation to Babaganoosh.

If there were any characters on Special Victim Unit who be in that similar situation are Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson. Hell, Casey Novak hasn't had much to do all season and wasn't even in the last episode.

^ And remember too that she was supposed to have a bigger storyline this season. Lake was supposed to be introduced as her new love interest if I remember correctly.
