DEXTER Season 7 in jeopardy

Dream

Dexter star Michael C. Hall’s contract with Showtime runs through this year, closing out the sixth season of the popular drama. A seventh may not be forthcoming, as Hall and Showtime have been unable to reach an agreement on his future earnings.

The contract negotiations have broken down over a $4 million discrepancy in terms. Reportedly, Hall and his representatives want $24 million for another two seasons of Dexter, while the cable network is only willing to pay $20 million. Rumor has it that Showtime is willing to renegotiate for a single season extension, making season 7 the last for the serial killer drama.

Even at the lower $20 million figure, Hall would be one of the highest-paid actors on television at over $800,000 an episode. The salary that he requested would give him a cool $1 million per episode over two years. According to Deadline the actor is tired of working in television after ten years on Dexter and Six Feet Under, and wants to pursue work in film and Broadway.

I loved seasons 1, 2, and 4 but Season 5 was so disappointing. I fear the writers will drop the ball even more if they drag this show out. Maybe this year should be the last for the show? I think six seasons is good enough for any show. Deb needs to find out already!

I'd like to see Deb find out at the end of this season and THEN have another year to deal with the consequences in a really hellacious, wonderful, balls-out final season.

But this show never needed to go on for even 7 seasons. They are definitely showing signs of creative burnout.

I agree whole heartedly. Another thing this show has been suffering from is that they've been playing it way too safe, Rita being the exception, so balls out would be highly recommended.

Season 5 should have been the final season and Deb should have found Dexter's secret a long time ago. It would open a lot of interesting possibilities for Deb and her dynamic with Dexter.

I would be fine with Season 6 being the last. I also would be fine with a Season 7. I will be annoyed if they drag it out anymore than that though. Deb NEEDS to find out this season and the final season can be the fallout of that and/or the whole world/department finding out.

Yeah, that would be too much. I would be fine with Deb finding out. I had this dream scenario of Deb finding out Dexter's secret and LaGuerta having suspicions about Dexter being a killer which leads to her becoming the new Doakes but concerning the decline the character has gone in the past few seasons, Deb finding out Dexter's secret would have to be enough.

I think all the show needs is one tightly-plotted season to wrap things up, but they need to know going into it, before they start writing, that it's the last season. And that could end up being the best season of the show. If they do it right, of course.
