Dexter 4x09 (spoilers)

I loved Lost Boys. How it hit the ground running with Dexter and Arthur to the revelation that Arthur kills four victims in each cycle and not three and that the fourth victim is always a little boy to Deb's interrogation of Christine to the creepy moments involving Arthur and the boy to Dexter trying to find the boy in time while feeling guilty about not getting the boy before Arthur drove off with him to the scene between Arthur and Christine to Christine getting arrested to Dexter and Arthur's confrontation to Arthur getting away yet again.

About Paul's parents stepping in to take Cody and Astor away from Dexter after Rita's possible death, I have this feeling that one of them (probably Cody) will die in the season finale along with Rita and that Dexter will have fight for custody over Astor and Harrison with either Paul's parents or Rita's mother. But I'm confident that Dexter won't just give them over to Paul's parents or Rita's mother and will win in the end because Rita entrusted him with the kids and, like we've seen before with Paul and the pedophile, Dexter takes that responsibility dead seriously.

If Dexter is reeling from Rita's death, he'd let Paul's parents (established as being perfectly nice people - interesting the writers felt obliged to do that) take Astor and Cody. He might try to fob Harrison off on them, too. He'd know he's in no shape to be taking care of kids.

If Dexter is in any way responsible for Rita's death, he won't have the same self-assurance as he does now. He'd seriously question whether the ghost of Harry was right to nag him that he shouldn't try to have a family. It's caused disaster - he'd be backpeddling furiously on everything he's been trying to do.

Lost Boys was amazing and the trailer for the final 2 episodes has left me :scream: for more . While this season is behind 3 & 1 it nestled in 3rd spot nicely. The finale is going to be great and while at the monent its looking like we will lose a character in Rita being the odds on favourite IMO, what if...

Dexter saves her but in doing so has no choice but to reveal his secret to her or someone else out of the main cast. I think Dexter has jumped up to number 1 spot of my TV shows this year.:techman:

Another great episode, if a little predictable. Dex rescuing Scott and Christine getting nabbed were on the cards from the off, but I was totally hooked anyway. Deb has been slowly closing the net on Trinity for a while, so it makes sense that progress was made - especially with Christine being so damn bad as keeping a lid on it!

But as to the big twist that's coming....if Rita and the kids (or any combination thereof) gets killed it won't be a surprise in any way whatsoever. We're totally expecting it, and the teaser for next weeks' episode leads down that potential path as well. Hmmmm.

In any case, I've thoroughly enjoyed Season 4. What a ride!

:D

Hold on, I just thought about something. What if it isn’t Rita who gets killed by the end of the season but only one of her kids? Then we have Dexter and Rita going through the terrible loss of a child and watch how the child’s death impact Astor or Cody. Maybe the beginning of that child growing his or her own Dark Passenger? The death will also bring Dexter and Rita closer together after their marriage hit a rough patch after Rita tells Dexter about kissing Elliot and it will set up a heavy emotional arc for Rita in Season 5. Rita’s mother or Paul’s parents will try to take the rest of the children from Rita, believing her home may not be a safe environment for them. Feeling responsible for the death of Rita’s child, Dexter will step in during the battle for custody to keep Rita from suffering any more pain.

I got chills at the end of the trailer when we heard Trinity say "Hello, Dexter Morgan". This show is so awesome.

This season has been great, probably better than season 3, but I thought season 3 was great too.

edit:
One thought that I had was that Trinity may turn himself in and try to out Dexter. I mean if Trinity digs deep enough and finds out what Dexter is really all about maybe that would be his best chance for survival.

Wow. What does everyone think about 4x09 (Lost Boys)?

This season is shaping up to be fantastic. And unlike S1 and S2, there's really no glaring deficiency (in S1, the silly notion that Dexter's brother would automatically be a serial killer too

Well, to be fair, that WAS the plot of the original book the series is based on (although the final outcome is *very* different: LaGuerta is dead, and Deborah now knows that her brother is a serial killer, but doesn't care).

One thing I hope comes out of this episode (lazy writing to avoid a plot problem if it doesn't) - the department should be able to hugely narrow down the search for Trinity, thanks to Dexter saving the kid. I assume they'll bring the kid in to describe Arthur and get a sketch that they can publish (they did it in the first season with the kid in the trunk). Ironic that Dexter, who's been secretly hoping the investigation goes nowhere, may have given them the big break they need. I'm enjoying the "race" aspect in these last couple of episodes.

If Rita learns his secret because he saved her life, can she rat him out to the cops? I'd say...no.

Or, Rita dies and Deb learns the secret (related events or not). Now Dexter is traumatized and so are the kids. Does Deb rat him out to the cops? I'd say...marginal call.

Yeah I read the books, too. It wasn't a plausible plotline in the book either (and Deb not caring that Dex is a serial killer is just wacky!) But the books aren't nearly as good as the show.

Wow, the pressure in 409 and 410 is just off the scale!

Damn, why can't the next ep be here NOW?!!

Hopefully we will find out how Trinity has a daughter from another relationship (maybe his 1st test family went very wrong). Wheres mommy :borg:

How many episodes are there going to be total? I can never remember whether Dexter runs to ten or twelve episodes per season...

Agreed. Number three (the one with Moloch) is particularly stupid, and the fact that both Cody and Astor *also* have their own "Dark Passengers" and want Dex to teach them how to kill things is... well, a major reason why I don't think I'll read the fifth if there is one. It's just such crap.

I am freaking out waiting for the season finale! I don't really know what will happen other than I'm sure it will be even more wrenching than anything we've seen from this show before.

But here's my guess, based on two little, seemingly trivial details that I'm trying to fit into the whole picture:

1. Why did the writers feel it necessary to introduce Paul's parents into the show?

2. What is the purpose of having Matsuka think Rita is cheating on Dex?

Here's the twist that would require both: Trinity (or possibly his vengeful daughter) kills Rita and Dexter is fingered for the crime because Matsuka just previously to that, finally managed to tell Dexter about his suspicions. That would fit just perfectly with this show's twisted sense of irony. Dexter is finally arrested for murder, but it's not one he committed, and for an insultingly mundane motive - jealous husband, pffft!

The purpose of Paul's parents is to get the kids out of the story during at the least the first half of next season, which will deal with Dexter being locked up while under suspicion of murder, or at least dealing with the justice system from the wrong side of the fence. Of course he'll be cleared but not until a whole lot of new info on him surfaces in the process of the investigation. Deb will of course be tearing up the greater Miami area looking for any exculpatory evidence and will find all sorts of troubling stuff.

If the season ends with Dexter being arrested, I will crawl out of my skin out waiting for next Sept!
