Devil's Due

I liked this episode alot too. And still enjoy watching it from time to time. I have to say I don't believe I've heard anyone talk negatively about it, although I suppose you can always find something wrong with anything you look at.

Oh, and a little off topic, but whats a comeuppance? I know the general idea by saying someone is about to receive it, but I don't think I've ever heard what the word itself actually is.

According to that source, it's highest since the pilot - which is correct - and not aside from the pilot. ;)

Maybe my brain isn't working on all thrusters, but I'm not quite seeing the distinction.

Hey it's a fair question. What it means, I guess, is that the villain gets what they deserve.. but I also extrapolate it by saying that they get not only what they deserve, but how they get it as well.

In this case, if they somehow just killed Ardra, well that would be a dissapointing.

Instead, Picard gave her what she deserved by disecting her whole scheme with her watching, revealing her as a fraud to everyone, and then using her own scheme against her.

She is far more deserving of all of that than if they were to simply get rid of her.

So, when a villain gets their comeuppance, they are basically getting their just desserts for even trying to implement their nefarious plot!

I enjoyed this episode but haven't watched it for a while. From what I remember I think it would have been a stand-out episode in season one, but it does suffer slightly given the general standard of season four.

Having said that there are much bigger clunkers in season four. "The Loss". **cough**

"Devil's Due" and "Half a Life" were about the same to me quality-wise. Middle-of-the-road eps that I don't mind playing in the background. I actually enjoyed "The Loss" because I like seemingly mysterious concepts like two-dimensional beings. But then again, I was never impressed by Marina Sirtis' acting abilities.

"Devil's Due" can be fun if you're in the right frame of mind, but is otherwise a subpar outing. It's silly and preposterous. Which, of course, can be fun. But it's so silly and so preposterous that, unless you're in the mood, it easily becomes a laughable (as opposed to humorous) affair.

The "devil" (aka Ardra) decides to take advantage of a contract the Vantaxians signed a thousand years prior.

Turns out the Ardra is a con-woman and eventually gets outmatched by Picard.

This was one of (I think) two scripts that were originally written for Phase II.

Yep. The other Phase II story that made it TNG was the second season episode The Child.

Are my posts invisible? I'm sure I already said that. Seem to get ignored alot on here...

Actually come to think of it I rather liked Devil's Due. Adra was kinda sexy as the 'devil' and I liked the fact that she got her come uppance. It was a nice little variation with a little mystery, that though it was a tad obvious it sorta reminded me of an old TOS episode.

Yes I know it was slotted for Phase II but I liked the TNG adaptation. Believe me there are worst episodes IMO.

Don't take it personal-like. I was merely focused on the Borg Queens question at that moment.

Ha ha!

Sorry, I wasn't taking it personally, It was a genuine query! I should have been a little clearer as my post does come across a bit whiney.

Cheers. :techman:

*Sorry for hijacking thread.

I liked this episode, at the least it was good comic relief. I like it also since Picard as usual sniffs out the real root of the problem, just like with the Crystalline Entity or when Data gets taken over by Dr. Graves.
