Not really. They serve same function storywise. Once a timeline splits off it becomes effectively a parallel universe. (assuming it doesn't get axed for some timey-wimey reason)

The "other" history is just three movies. The prime one is ten movies and eleven (more or less) TV shows. Seems pretty easy to keep straight
The only people who care about this are Trekkies. And I think that for most of them, this isn't that hard a concept to grasp.
I'm not.
To me, alternate timelines and parallel universes are one in the same. Something that causes a tangent, resulting in a different perspective. So, for me, Kelvin Universe is in line with the Mirror Universe, Worf's various parallel universes, and Lazarus' universe from TOS.
The biggest thing for me is looking for when did it change. In Kelvin Universe, it changes with Nero's incursion with the Narada. From that point forward, things are able to be different. Mirror Universe was when First Contact with Vulcans ended with Cochrane shooting the Vulcan and stealing their tech and becoming conquerors.
Etc.
