I think that--if it's left out--you'd need to find another pretty substantial story element which:One thing I don't like at all about the Kelvin Timeline is the destruction of Vulcan. And I don't think it's necessary for the story.
What do you think about it?
Except the destruction of Vulcan didn't destroy all Vulcans. Diminished them, certainly, but didn't destroy them.Well, I'm talking about the destruction of Star Trek's most popular and maybe most important species.
So honestly I don't really care about the apperance of old Spock in the movie. Actually I found it rather weird![]()
So it isn't so much the necessity of [thing] to the story we were told as it is that what you wanted was a completely different story?Well, I'm talking about the destruction of Star Trek's most popular and maybe most important species.
So honestly I don't really care about the apperance of old Spock in the movie. Actually I found it rather weird![]()
I found it completely necessary for the story told, especially based on knowledge of Spock's relationship with his mother and one of his great regrets was not telling her that he loved her.And I don't think it's necessary for the story.
Protect his younger self, and family, from temporal agents. Basically, a live action and cinematic version of “Yesteryear”.A) provides a reason for the presence of oldSpock
Both Sarek and Amanda die. Let’s add the loss of Spock’s extended family and T’Pring as well. And a sensitivity to Uhura, and to a less extent Pike, being in any danger.B) provides a reason for nuSpock to be emotionally compromised
It still produces singularities. It can just also be miniaturized to target specific individuals.C) provides an example of what Red Matter does
Nero hates the reunification movement. As shortly after they succeeded, which involved Romulus joining the Federation, the Federation failed to rescue his family during the supernova. So, Nero retroassassinates the members of the movement. He also intends to destroy the founding worlds of the Federation, but only after killing Spock.D) provides a large target for Nero's compulsion for revenge
Some other threat from TOS that Spock can assist with (ex. planet killer, Garth of Izar, Genesis device prototype, Sybok and his followers, Gary Mitchell, etc).E) provides a reason for oldSpock to appear at all in Into Darkness
They've got 100+ years of warning now, I'm sure the evacuation will happen with plenty of time if the nova can't be prevented.Won't Romulus still be destroyed in the Kelvin timeline?
Potentially, but the data may help them save more lives, if not the entire planet.Won't Romulus still be destroyed in the Kelvin timeline?
