Destroy and Empire!

Which of the major powers in the Trek universe would you destroy, how, and why? Not necessarily "Which don't you like".

One of the things I liked about TNG is that they changed the political situations that existed in TOS. It wasn't just Kirk II chasing the 3189th evil Klingon-of-the-week. The Klingons were now friends, the Romulans had disappeared, there was barely a Vulcan to be seen... Well, okay, it was also kind of a pain, but it was interesting.

So say it's the 25th century and the astro-political landscape has changed again. Get rid of a major power.

The majority will probably like to see the Federation destroyed, so Trek can have a more dystopian setting for the Human race...

The Dominion, the Cardassian Union and the Breen Confederacy; I think it's rather implied that they were.

By "destroy an empire," I take it you mean, disband the political entity and replace it with a democratic system of governance?

I suppose of the major powers, the Romulan Star Empire is the one that would be most amenable to a democratic system. We know that they already have a Senate whose members represent specific geographical constituencies (Senator Pardek representing the Krocton Segment in "Unification"), so that to me implies that it's already at least a semi-democratic system -- perhaps comparable to the system that existed in England in the 1600s, when elected MPs vied with the members of the House of Lords and the reigning Kings for political power.

It would be cool to see Klingons subjugated. Working in a dilithium mine.

I think the Klingon Empire would be fun to see disbanded for the simple fact that then Klingons could be a very interesting threat to the Federation. Some Klingon commanders still feel an honor-bound obligation to be friendly with the Federation, other commanders just take their ships on missions for glory, not really caring who the enemy is, and yet others would probably be battling to rebuild the empire. Hence, any ship encountering a Klingon vessel would have no idea what to expect. That could make for interesting stories.

Me too.

I don't want to see the Federation destroyed. Not ever. It can change and grow, sure, but not end. Besides, it's not even an empire; it doesn't *deserve* to be destroyed.

That being said, who *do* I want gone? The Klingon/Cardassian Alliance from the MU.
