Destiny Trilogy.

Destiny, for me, was the definitive closing of the TNG crew. It felt like a good solid finale for their run. The books were big in scope, they covered a lot of loose threads and bring closure to a horrible tragedy in Picard's life and allow him to finally move on.

Is this trilogy ever coming out in a single volume/3-in-1/omnibus/whatever it's called?

I find it rather doubtful myself, since of the last three reprint omnibuses two didn't sell very well, and one was canceled.

One can hope. If they ever do, I'll be the first in line @ my local Chapters so I can get it. To me, it seems as though this is the perfect way to read it. All under one cover :D. It would also be perfect to loan out to others who want to read the best that treklit has to offer :techman:.

Man, after reading this thread I'm going to have to read this trilogy next. I’ve had book 1, ‘Gods of Night’ for a while and just never picked it up. Even though I never asked, thanks for the recommendations.

Just bought another copy of this as a gift for a friend of mine. He's never read a Trek book. I'm curious to see what he thinks...

I did an online search on this series and discovered that it takes place in between 2 Titan books, Sword of Democles and Over A Torrent Sea. However, I also found out that A Singular Destiny deals with the political fallout of the Destiny trilogy. If I were to pick this series up, which I am planning on doing, should I read A Singular Destiny before or after A Torrent Sea? I like to read books in the proper order when I can, and now that I know other books deal with the storyline I want to make sure I read it in the proper order. Thanks.

I found that the order is... (TTN: Sword of Damocles), Greater Than The Sum, Destiny Trilogy, Losing The Peace, A Singular Destiny, (back to TTN: Over a Torrent Sea).

I realize the Voyager re-launch stuff goes in there, too, but it might not be necessary to fit it in exactly...

There's virtually no overlap between A Singular Destiny and Over a Torrent Sea, so it doesn't really matter what order you read them in. However, ASD is chronologically first, and there's one paragraph in OaTS that alludes to something revealed toward the end of ASD, so if it's really important to you, go with ASD first.

^^ Though A Singular Destiny came out before Loosing the Peace, and LtP comes before SD chronologically.

If they weren't designed to be read in the order they were published, why publish them in that order?

Personally I read them in publication order and it did me no harm.

^^ No idea, just that the historical note at the beginning of LtP says it happens after the Destiny trilogy and before the events of Singular Destiny (or more accurately one event in that book, but since the entire book is basically a lead up to that event, its fair to say the whole book).

It does no harm to read them in publication order, both are good, though personally I think with the contents of LtP showing the more immediate after effects of Destiny and with the contents of SD being more a political fall out, they work fine if you read them in opposite publication order too (though you could argue that the events of both books are occuring more or less concurrently so the reading order doesnt matter at all- with the exception of the epilogue of LtP which is clearly after SD).

To my mind, the only exception to the "publication order" rule is the post-finale DS9 books, in which I would recommend the originally intended publication order, going straight from Mission Gamma into Unity rather than The Left Hand of Destiny, which in my opinion screws up the flow and pacing of the story.

Yeah, I did it the other way around. But while I was reading OATS, I hit that reference, and it had me wondering...which is why I next read the Destiny trilogy.

Sneaky, Chris.

:p

^Don't blame/credit me. Marco Palmieri asked me to include a reference to the Typhon Pact. I originally chose to avoid any references because I didn't want to spoil anyone who read my book first. Marco figured there should be a tease to get people curious, and your tale suggests he was right.
