Destiny or Shatner books?

In a few weeks, I'm going on a vacation. I usually like to have reading material with me during such times.
Im really torn between taking the Destiny trilogy by David Mac, and the first three William Shatner trek novels with me. I love the shat books, but ive only read Destiny once, and greatly enjoyed it.
Which ones would you guys take?

You've read them both already? You should know which one you like more, then...

I'd take Destiny, but that's just me.

I'd say Destiny, but I've never read any of The Shat's books, so I couldn't really compare them, quality wise.

Take something you've not yet read :)
Well this is my problem with this option, Dayton. When I go on long vacations, I'm afraid to take new reading material, because I might end up not liking it. Then I'm stuck with a book i won't finish.
Although I still havent gotten around to reading Vanguard books 4 or 5. But its been oh, about a little over a year since i read Vanguard book 3. So I've forgotten what's happened in those books.

^ Well, there's a primer of sorts in the front of Open Secrets. Not a complete rehashing of the first three books, but hopefully enough to help jog your memory if you've already read them.

And what are these "long vacations" you speak of?

Depends on the kind of vacation you do. If you're a drink on the beach kinda guy like me, take the Shat books. Fine reading if you're plastered.

oh, i go out to reno, nevada for two weeks to visit my relatives. I don't do much reading in the day. But that first day of travel is a LONG day, and i like to have a book on hand to read, as well as during the nights im out there.
Well i just remembered the shatner books were all put out on audio, which i was able to track down. So i'll just listen to them while im out there, and read the destiny books.

Yeah, I'd say rip 'em onto the mp3 player or whatever and do that. Great fun especially with the Shat reading them.

Between Shatnerverse and Destiny?

Destiny wins, by far!
And this statenent comes from someone who finds 'Destiny' to be vastly overrated on this forum.

Destiny to read for sure, but the Shat-audios are cool. I second seigezunt's assertion that with Shat reading them, you'll enjoy the ride ;)

If you were to get an eBook reader such as a Sony, you could take them all and read what you have not yet read and if you don't like it, switch to what you have read. You can take more books with you then you'd have time to read. And, they'd be just the weight of one Sony Reader.

I'd second this. I've not read the Shatner book, so I can't comment on how good they are, but I loved the Destiny trilogy and would take that instead.

I haven't read the Destiny books since they came out. I forgot how well they read as a stand alone, or if I need to re-read all the TNG/TTN books before them again.

For vacation, I'd go with The Ashes of Eden and The Return. They're a little small-universe, and they give Kirk far more ability than he ever had onscreen, but they are pretty fun.

Destiny is just a little too bleak for me to consider light reading material. It does have a strong story and a diverse cast in its favor, and the ending is pretty cathartic if you can make it there in the alotted time.

The Shatner books. Certainly the first trilogy (the rest are more hit-and-miss). I just find it more enjoyable, and immediately satisfying.
