1) because that's not what the DTI does

Yes. Their goal is to minimize the use of time travel and alterations to known history. Even if known history is the result of some earlier time travel, it's still their history, so they have a vested interest in protecting it.

Here's something I have wondered: is the implication of this trilogy that Borg assimilation is impossible for any single person to overcome because the Borg collective consciousness is the remnants of a super-advanced science catom-based mind? Or is that just because no author has ever seen fit to introduce someone who overcame assimilation all on their own?

I'll preface this comment with: Yes, I did read the trilogy. Nonetheless, when in fact do we think the Borg will be 'reintroduced' or 'reborn' in the literary World ? I understand the purpose of Mr. Mack's trilogy was to say peace-out to them, but come on......forever.....:D

I don't understand the question. It's never been suggested that assimilation could be "overcome" by some kind of individual will. How does that even make sense? It's an invasive surgical alteration of the body and brain, not something that can just be conquered with the power of positive thinking.

Yeah, I have to admit, @Enterprise1701, I think you're way overestimating the ability of a brain. Willpower isn't magic, and you can't get yourself out of brain damage and invasive direct interference of your thoughts by thinking at it really hard. Just internal invasive thoughts take focused CBT to figure out how to stop, and that's your brain itself pushing thoughts on you.

Saying you can get out of assimilation by willpower is akin to saying you can get yourself out of...I don't know, prosopagnosia by sheer willpower, to pull out the first mental processing disorder to come to mind.

....never? I mean, I hope not, at least. Why would you want to overturn such an amazing, touching, and thematically appropriate ending? What would be gained by that?

(Reintroduced as an active threat, that is, I assume you mean. Otherwise, check out The Collectors. That's enough of a reintroduction for me.)

@Idran--Mr. Mack's writing let it be the Destiny Trilogy or his Warpath title, his writing is beyond amazing. I guess looking for a Rogue, surviving Borg status post the Destiny trilogy is just a bit selfish of me...lol

I guess my head was somewhere else when I typed that; it really does sound silly now.

We got plenty of Borg stories, so I'd rather just move on with new bad guys. As cool as the Borg could be there really isn't a ton you can do with them, and think we've covered most of it over the years.
If someone really wants to do a Borg story there's nothing to prevent them from just doing a story at a point in the timeline before Destiny, or to involve time travel or alternate universes.
At this point I find a Borgless universe a lot more interesting than one with them, especially in the Delta Quadrant.

... but you can still overcome assimilation if the audience claps really hard, right?

Reboot comic Spock overcame the Borg due to his hybrid status, the poor Borg could not assimilate his mixed species blood. Yeah the IDW writers thought that would make a good plot device, to me it was utterly stupid.

Wait really?

Did the writers just not see the Voyager episode where Torres was temporarily assimilated or what

Well, Torres was assimilated by 24th century/Prime timeline Borg. Perhaps 23rd century/Kelvin timeline Borg just aren't as advanced.

That seems like an odd story choice. I find it hard the believe the Borg wouldn't have some way around that.

They do come back in Star Trek Online.

I don’t think the Borg was cost in the Kelvin timeline. Its been implied that the universe there is very different so maybe the Columbia wasn’t lost.
Similar to me thinking there isn’t any Borg in the Mirror Universe since the Enterprise didn’t come back in time to tell Cochran’s about the Vulcans, they just assumed they were hostile.

STO is an alternate universe to the TrekLit one.. it's even mentioned specifically (the Borg invasion) in the STO tie-in novel The Needs of The Many

Rather, it's simply an incompatible fictional continuity. TNotM may have pretended they were alternate timelines for the sake of a single scene, but there are fundamental discrepancies in the way they depict a number of alien species and other aspects of the universe.

The Borg appear in the Starfleet Academy: The Delta Anomaly Book.

They also appear in either the first or second arc of Boldly Go, the second ongoing Kelvinverse comic.

They do exist in the Novelverse version of the Mirror Universe. In The Worst of Both Worlds, the TNG based third novella in Glass Empires, Mirror Picard and Vash into the MU version of the Borg and their king.
