Spoilers Designated Survivor

I think the more likely scenario is that the head FBI guy isn't in on it, wants to help Maggie Q uncover this conspiracy, but will end up confiding in the wrong person who kills him and Maggie will be on her own. He's never done anything to obstruct her investigation.

I was kidding, making fun of the trope. However from the tone and tenor of your post, I believe you are in on the conspiracy as well.

Or whenever we find out who actually is running the conspiracy, it'll turn out that they're actually working for somebody else we never saw before, who is totally unrelated to anyone or anything previously shown. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? ;)

I was hoping the whole conspiracy theory part would pretty much be ignored after the pilot. Just do it in the pilot to get picked up and then move on rather quickly. I mean really, it's a president show, they can literally do anything.

The ultimate big bad that Tony was going after in season 7 of 24 was a huge let down. This guy was behind everything, including Logan's secret Bluetooth cabal and all the season 5 assassinations, but no one had ever heard or seen anything about him until Tony mentioned him.

I love a good conspiracy

I finally got caught up last week, and I'm still really enjoying the show, so far I've been pretty happy with the balance of personal, political and conspiracy stuff. The only thing I haven't liked so far is the whole thing with the son not being Kirkman's. We've already got the family drama with him and the drugs, we don't really need to throw the whole illegitamte child thing in there too.
So am I the only one wondering if Congresswoman Hookstraten is part of the conspiracy?

I wonder it, but I think it's more likely that she's just a political rival, angling for the presidency next chance she gets.

I am actually interested in the conspiracy part of the show, though I hope they still show us more of Kirkman trying to adjust to his new role, and some of the particulars behind it. Learning along the way, along with the audience, so to speak. They kind of did that with the governor-gone-rogue thing, we learned some about what kind of options are in play in that type of situation.

I was thinking the same thing as some of you when the FBI agent's boss took her out into a field and said "who else knows about this?" My response was "uh oh!" But we'll see. So far that relationship has proven to be an unconventional one, as others have mentioned in this thread. The boss actually listens to her, while at the same time admonishing her for going outside her bounds. It seems like a realistic relationship. Hopefully it's not a part of the conspiracy as well.

I think the Congresswoman is a false-lead. The show wants us to not trust her and think she's "in on it" or something when, in reality, she's just as lost and mixed-up in this as President Kiefer is she's just be Washington enough to know how to play hardball with her political aspirations, connections and needs.

Yeah, I agree that she's probably a red herring. She's stuck in peacetime obstructionism/undermining the political opposition mode, which is so out of place given the current depleted status of the government that it comes off as nefarious and conspiratorial instead of just needlessly dickish when they should be working together.

Well, she is Republican....

hmm.. another 2 week gap/delay.

Agreed. Hookstraten is a red herring. We need someone to hate since the General was fired.

It's sad that shows are still planned out that way. It's no wonder I watch so few network shows anymore, and those that I do watch, are far from my favorites.

The Good Place had the worst episode breakup. It's only 13 episodes long, the 9th aired this week... and the final 4 air in January.

ABC's new president is an idiot doesn't help matters. The old guy was the one that came up with the idea of two mini seasons with 10-12 episodes in a row. The new woman is like "Yeah I hate that, we will do it the old way".

Well Designated Survivor is reaching some of the stupidity that plagued 24's writing. Good job, Deputy Director, by making it obvious on two occasions that you're suspicious of the congressman even if you tried to act like nothing was wrong. Now we're at the "do what the bad guys say or else your loved ones will die" phase.
