Design the Next Enterprise

My Enterprise reveal moment was Trek XI . . . I just remember seeing the teaser with Cloverfield, and the superbowl trailer . . . I was so happy they got it right, while being new and exciting.

My favorite reveal is the Enterprise A at the end of StarTrek IV. True, she wasn't a different design, but what a moment!

While we wait, here are some new renders to look at :)

The originals are 2048x1152, and can be found here:

-as well as a few other renders not seen above:

I’m also working on a really big one (8192x2048) but I’ll keep polishing it until they announce the winner.

Gee, that sounds about the right size for poster and print size promotional materials.

I notice you didn't mention whether or not you'd gotten any emails. ;)

By the way, your design is growing on me more all the time. I still question the technical rationale for even having a separate engineering hull when the warp engines aren't connected to it, but I do like the way the lines flow aesthetically.

Good luck. :bolian:

I like yer ship Mr Modem

Thanks :)

No emails yet unfortunately. I just keep working on her because it's the only thing I can do to feel proactive :)

Glad the design is growing on you :) I'd like to think I merely filled in the gap between the neck and nacelle struts, but many people see her as having her nacelles mounted on the saucer, which I can see now but didn't really intend, so I probably could have pulled that aspect off better than I did.

Actually, upon closer inspection it looks as if the nacelles are attached to the lower hull. Interesting how you made the saucerette into a kind of horse-shoe lifeboat type deal, with the doughnut hole serving as a "battle bridge" for the secondary hull. Depending on how the details would be fleshed out, this design could serve as a successor for the TNG Galaxy class of starships. It definitely fits in the post-TNG "prime universe" quite well.

Did you give your Enterprise-F a starship-class name?

"Frontier Class" a nod to both the "Final Frontier" and to my home state, the "Last Frontier" (Alaska.)

I was a little unsure of it at first, as it mean that the prototype would be the "USS Frontier" which struck me as an odd name, but it turns out there have been USS Frontiers before in World War II and Korea.

My most memorable scenes of the Enterprise was the first scenes when we get to see the Enterprise E. The remember the scene as it shows the tail end, and I think it was then that I just fell in love with her. She was so sleek, and I remember loving the deflector dish area as well. I think I remember even back then wanting to get a Micro Machine of her, and that they were so hard to come by.
I still want one even today.

Unfortunately, this makes me so critical about what the next Enterprise will look like, because I want to be able to fall in love with the next Enterprise, like how I fell in love with the Enterprise E.

Were I to recall the very first time I saw any Enterprise, I bet it was watching the Wrath of Khan when I was very, very young. Great intro, even if it is just a trimmed down version of the reveal from TMP.

There is some rather logical speculation going on that the winner may be announced tomorrow

It's 'First Contact Day", and also the day the new trolling rules go into effect on the STO forums.

For me nothing will beat the reveal of the TMP refit Enterprise. Every subsequent new design has been varying degrees of :wtf:

I first loathed the 1701D, but I've since grown accustomed to it and don't mind it so much. The 1701C still looks clunky and uninspired---they simply should have gone with Probert's initial design. The 1701E looks like an adolescent fanboy's wet dream. The NX-01 isn't horrible in itself---it's actually not bad---but it just doesn't look convincingly pre TOS. The JJprise is one fugly p.o.s.

The best starship design I've seen after the TOS and TMP E has been DS9's Defiant---a nice kick-ass design.

The D was really brave, and really worked, but in a very, very different way than the traditional Enterprise. I love the D, but I wouldn't dare try to recapture the special magic that makes her proportions look correct. I based mine on the Connie and just pulled everything in and interconnected it.

Other things I based on the D though, like the neck. I really dig that cobra's hood. My saucer is also perhaps a tad too heavy, like both the D and E.

My daughter has been watching the animated series, and it keeps striking me how small and high that saucer is. The Enterprise B has a HUGE engineering section compared to her saucer (which stands to reason) and then the C bridges the gap to the D.

Well, I really do dig the D, so my E-F design was certainly based on her "swooping" design.

There's some talk on the STO forums about them needed signed paperwork from the winners. Did I miss something? Is this a for sure thing they need to do before they declare a winner, or is it just speculation?

Lack of info is ... confusing.

Just wanna keep ey'body up to date. This was posted on the STO forums:

WishStone (Cryptic community mod): "Nope, it is no joke.
We are working on this and it sadly has taken longer than we wanted to.

Thank you for your continued patience while we are making sure that the submissions are legit; the winners can be notified and all odds and ends are in order."

That is good to hear that they are still checking everything out, but it is still nerve racking to wait and hear the new good or bad.

yeah it seems like they want to be sure every entry is original
they got an overwhelming amount of crap kitbashes and stolen designs to sort through

I don't get it. They should have picked a top 25 or 30 then checked those for originality. How long can that take? I would hope they are not checking every entry????

I doubt that very much. Thing is though, this is a company that has a full time job updating/maintaining an MMO. I doubt they've hired a guy to check through entries of a contest.
