I was thinking this morning, while sitting on the pot, how nice it would be during the wintertime to have a heated toilet seat. But that isn't important right now.
I was also contemplating on the goodness of dietary fiber in my daily breakfast, which is equally irrelevant to you, yet vitally significant to me.
I was pondering and pondering until my ponderer was sore about variations of the warp-nacelles-on-a-stick approach. What alternatives haven't already been done? The ring ship is nice; wish I had been born 20 years earlier and come up with it.
I thought about the struts that hold the nacelles, and how the nacelles do the work of creating the warp fields. Then I thought about airplanes, and how the wings look like struts... but the wings do the work of generating the lift, NOT something attached on the ends of them.
So, that is my "challenge" to you and me: sketch out a nice, conventional ST starship, then ditch the nacelles, and morph the struts into the warp drive units!
Go to town with it - god knows, I will!
