Deserved an episode

Laura Cynthia Chambers

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Which minor character (think Kyle, Leeta, etc) do you think deserved a featured episode of their own? Or a better episode than the lone one/few they got?

Charlene Masters comes to mind for me. Would have been nice to see interact more with the crew in a less emergency setting.

Minor character - centric episodes are only as interesting as the minor character they are based on, and not that many minor characters are all that interesting.

I'm thinking of the episode 'It's Only a Paper Moon'. It's been a long time since I've seen that one, but I remember thinking it was fascinating at the time. The lead characters in the story were Vic Fontaine and Nog, neither of which were main cast. I do remember some criticism at the time questioning why they were thrust to the forefront of the story being guest stars though.

But then DS9 was much more of an ensemble cast so they did that a lot. Any "minor character" I can think of has already had at least one story set around them or had them as a key person in the plot: Garak, Rom, Leeta, Keiko, etc.

The minor characters in the other series though (TOS, TNG, VOY, ENT) weren't fleshed out enough to warrant it, with the possible exception of Barclay.

I think I would have liked to have seen or heard some more about Ayala on Voyager. He seemed to be at least in the background in most of the episodes. But he very rarely spoke.

Or something about Morn on DS9.

I wish we had a lot more of Riley. Other TOS minor characters I'd like to have seen more of were Leslie, LaSalle, M'Benga. TNG had Shelby and Lefler and Dr. Selar. DS9 did a really good job with minor characters, probably best of the bunch. VOY I was a big fan of Joe Carey and the Delaney sisters.

Actually thinking about it, I may be alone in this but I'd like to have seen more of Sonia Gomez. But I do echo @Shawnster with more Riley!

I would have liked more Kevin Riley from TOS, Nechayev from TNG, Rollins from Voyager and I can't think of an underdeveloped minor character from DS9.

I always wondered about him too. He seemed to be high up in Chakotay's Maquis cell but ended up being a background guy who could do any job he was assigned (we saw him in many uniforms).

We saw him in two different uniforms: gold which he wore throughout most of the series, and red which he wore in Renaissance Man and Endgame. Well, you can stretch this out to three if you include the AGT-type uniform he was wearing in the future scenes of Endgame.

The actor also played Dr. Chaotica's robot.

We needed the Enterprise episode where Chef saves the ship when it's boarded by hostile aliens. They could have had hand to hand combat scenes where his face is obscured. A rescue scene where the bridge crew is about to be murdered but Chef swoops in at the last minute, disguised as one of the aliens (maybe wearing a helmet or something) . The back of the head congratulatory scene with Archer -
"You saved us all, Chef! We're forever in your debt! Starfleet will erect a statue in your honor!"

Cut to an epilogue scene in the 24th century with Riker dressed as Chef in the NX-01 holodeck program. When Deanna enters Riker asks "and you're telling me nowhere in Starfleet databases or historical records is there an image of what this Chef looked like or even who he was?" and Deanna talks about corrupted computer files during the Romulan War resulted in a lot of info being lost or something.

He was a security guard through much of the series, wasn't he? Until the last 2 episodes. I had this head canon that maybe he was another of Chakotay's crew that Chakotay argued for him (Ayala) to have a position of authority. Maybe not Tuvok's second, I think that was Andrews, right? But perhaps the next in line.

Renaissance Man is the only time I personally recall Ayala speaking.

My take is simpler than that, I just assumed Ayala was also left Starfleet to join the Maquis, and that aside from that he had an otherwise spotless service record, thereby Janeway had no problem giving him officer's rank and responsibilities.

His first line was actually in Basics Part 2, but that's just "yeah." He later spoke in Fury when he yells at Kes to stand down after she boards the ship and begins tearing it apart.

It would have been cool to see Captain Shelby return in a late TNG ep.

I'm having trouble thinking of minor characters who could carry an episode on their own and never got the chance. Guinan could have, but she had a major role in Time's Arrow, and she's a character whose secrets you don't want to make less mysterious.

They could have done a civilian perspective ep in TNG.

I think it would have been cool to have Shelby somehow come back as the new Captain that Riker has problems dealing with in Chain of Command. Dont know how they would have worked it because Jellico was supposed to be there because he was an expert on the Cardassians and she was an expert on the Borg but I think it would have been an interesting exercise to see how she had surpassed Riker who, even though he was still a highly effective officer, he had kind of become stagnant as Picard's first officer, not really growing and all Shelby has done is grow and how the tables have turned from when they last worked together in the Best of Both Worlds.

Would've been nice if Guinan had gotten a featured episode. It wouldn't have to be an episode with history. Just a story that happens to her

Alyssa Ogawa deserved so much better and so much more than what she got. A very lovely and incredibly charming woman! Unfortunately, she got the same treatment in The Next Generation movies, as well. But that was to the series' loss, not including her more. I've always been especially fond of her.

I like the idea that Ogawa deserved an episode. You know, I sort of assumed she was Crusher's head nurse because you saw her so often (well, often compared to any other medical staff). But in Lower Decks, she was just an ensign getting about to be promoted to Lt.

You know who else I would have liked to have seen more of, or even just one more time. The guy that worked in Ten Forward in Lower Decks. Ben was his name. He seemed like such a friendly guy that everyone liked and trusted.
