Deserted Island Question

I assume I'm alone in this scenario? Because unless I had company and/compelling reason to believe rescue/escape would be imminent, I doubt my will to live would last long on a deserted island. Don't get me wrong, I definitely intend on doing a lot more living before my time's up, but I have very little interest in going insane from loneliness while eating berries and suffering from extreme sunburn. I'll therefore take the flare gun, the matches, the tent, and the rifle. If the flares and lighting the island itself on fire a la The Lord of the Flies don't attract help... game over, man. Thanks for playing. :p

If I do have some company, I might swap the gun for the knife. But, unless the company were really great, without clear hope of rescue, the end result might be about the same before long.

Dude, I went insane a long time ago. Loneliness would be the least of my worries.

The knife, the pot, tarp and rope. Because all those things can be used over and over before crapping out.

Tarp - Shelter that can be modified as necessary; also usable as a rain catchment and water filter.
Rope - Securing said shelter, also usable as a simple tool.
Compass - Guide to get around the island without getting lost.
Knife - For cutting smaller branches to make fire, cutting rope, killing animals for food.

^ The compass would only be useful, IMO, if it had a glass face - i.e., a renewable fire-starting device.

I am directionally challenged, good sir. This is likely how I got on this island in the first place. :p

How finite are some of these items though- the battery on an iPod isn't gonna last that long, a roll of toilet paper ain't gonna last long, a flashlight's battery will eventually run out, etc
Or are you saying there's an infinite supply?
