I was tinkering with making planets for my ENT-era Miranda class piece when I decided to make a scene out of my latest creation.

Awesome. Why is less than half of it dark?

I envisioned the sun in this system being in the upper left of the scene. I originally had more of the planet in shadow but I wanted more of the detail to be visible.

Still doesn't explain why the light creeps around the terminator though :P

He did it because it LOOKS STINKIN AWESOME.
May I remind you left-brained fans that this is art, and the point of SOME art is just to look freaking awesome.
Flux Capacitor, I LOVE that picture, man! It's stunning and includes enough detail for me to get lost in it, in musings. it sparks my imagination. That, to me, is an essential part of art.

Thanks! That is indeed an Excelsior-class in the distance heading towards the starbase.

As for the shadow on the planet...yeah, it might not be 100% accurate or scientific, but I really liked how it came to a point and then frames the base and ships. I might try a version with a more realistic shadow and see how I feel about it. I may also add the sun since it's possible it could be visible.

It does look like a contagion of some kind creeping out across the planet, but it's still superb... the lit part of the planet is the most impressive bit for me.
