^ You know, I seriously doubt that. Star Trek will be back. In fact, I think the summer movie will help that happen.

^ Well, back then it was considered not just the ENT finale, but a Star Trek finale too. It was the last trek episode, maybe not for all eternity, but for the time being. That's why it should have been a two-hour celebration of everything that Star Trek represented during the past 39 years ('66 - '05).

I would've preferred a two-hour celebration, too. In fact, it would've been nice to get a three hour "look back" (with guests and best scenes) that the fans participate in (a la Heroes opener for the season) and a one-hour ENT finale. Even better, spend the last three ENT episodes wrapping up the series and all the stuff they introduced in a meaningful way: Federation of planets, TCW, Romulans as bad guys, etc. And then have a one-hour finale that makes fans sing and shout.

That didn't happen though. And we can't change time.

No, but we can still botch and complain about how much of a slap in the face TATV was to pretty much everyone involved. Let's see, the ENT cast was made to be guest stars on their own show, it wasn't even actually the "real" characters, there was a major character death that was done very poorly with no follow-up reaction from any of the other characters, pretty much everyone but Phlox was out of character or otherwise had their character assassinated, it ruined the storyline of one of the few good TNG episodes from S7, and oh yeah, as far as anyone knew it was going to be the last new Star Trek ever made for a very long time.

There are so many different ways they could've gone storywise, but really since they only seemed to have an hour, doing something like that TNG special they showed the week after the TNG finale where they looked back wouold've been a much better tribute to ENT and the franchise as a whole.

I think it's time we put this thread to rest. The discussion has gone off-topic anyway. If anyone wants to pick up on any of the points raised in this thread, feel free to start a fresh thread.
