Just the other night I saw the movie Elegy in which Hopper played the best friend of the main character. He had a stroke and died in that movie.

Ironic. And sad.

He died in the movie, then the next day I read that he died for real.

Yeah, Hopper could bring some fun to some otherwise so-so movies.

Agreed. Which is why I would like to mention his very fun performance in one of his most misunderstood movies: Super Mario Bros. He's so good at playing over the top, camp villains. My favorite scene is when he pretends to be Mario's lawyer, then Mario discovers who he really is. (I apologize. I always forget the exact wording of the line.)

"'...A no good, egg sucking son of a snake.' ... Did I lie?"

The funeral was held this past week, north of here (Santa Fe) in Taos.. Tiny little chuch, well attended by Hollywood elite. From all accounts, it was a simple, lovely ceremony.
