Demons ITV

Hmm ... all I need to know ... Christian Cooke is the star. I'll own the dvd.

Christian Cooke, aka Ross from UNIT on Doctor Who. Rawr.

oh, right... DAMN, i thought he looked familiar...

i fancy the cute GF.

is it just me or is she TSQ's long-lost British sister?

Watching episode 2 now...

I know, I know. But Richard Wilson is in it and I wanted to see his performance.

Watching this I'm suddenly remembering 'Torchwood - Series 1' in a whole new light.

Based on this, Primeval, and Hex... I'm getting the impression that the UK doesn't really do Sci-Fi/fantasy concepts (that aren't Merlin or Doctor Who) very well.

Of course, it's been a crapshoot in the US for the past few years too.

^I liked Hex, I like Primeval, and Torchwood, I would say Primeval or Torchwood aren't any lower quality than the likes of Stargate or Smallville. But I would say I think the problem is they're not used to making those sorts of shows, in the past the default for British Sci-fi/fantasy is dark and depressing, not light and fluffy.
But my niece watched the latest episode and said she thought it was great, I suppose she is the sort of are group it is aimed at, as a family show.

^Well to be fair...

-I've only watched the first 3 episodes of Hex before I decided to stop watching.
-I've only seen the 2nd Episode of the 2nd Series of Primeval, and didn't think about it again until I was thinking about this thread, so I've never bothered to watch more.

Also, I think my Torchwood Comment wasn't phrased very well.

You see, as I recall, the general perception of Torchwood Series 1 was that it was oversexed and then some. I still enjoyed the show, but I didn't really start caring about watching Torchwood until just after the beginning of Series 2.

Before, if I missed seeing it, I was like, "I'll get around to it later."
By series 2, I'd watch it before almost anything else in my queue. (Because I was hooked by the plot, characters, and general curiosity.)

That's really all I meant, I don't care about missing Demons or Primeval, because there's nothing (yet) that is drawing me in to watch either series. Nothing is hooking me into watching the show. (Other than the actors that is, in the cases of Phillip Glenister and Richard Wilson respectively.) I never found a hook with Hex either, but at least with Series 1 of Torchwood, I had the mystery of how Jack got back to the present and what he was up to, to tie it all together.

Maybe I just need an inkling of a larger/broader series arc to tie all the random elements together for me as I tend to like Serialized Narritive over One-off/Episodic plots from week to week.

Probably also the reason Sanctuary just got really interesting to me as well, due to the events of the Season finale.

(Forgive the above, if none of it makes much sense, I probably shouldn't be posting this late and hoping to be very coherent.)

I wouldn't disagree really. Nothing is really grabbing me with Demons yet. Primeval really just grabbed me as dumb fun, mostly, but series 2 did get a bit of an on going story arc which was good.
Torchwood series 1 definitely was basically trying too hard to be "adult" which was a problem, but I've enjoyed it pretty much all the way through.
Hex wasn't great, and it wasn't "The British Buffy" as it was billed, not by a long shot.

I do remember hearing that now that you bring it up.

I started watching Hex with that very idea in mind and it may have colored my perceptions of the show. I remember thinking that when I saw what was supposedly a UK version of Buffy, those who described it as such were either only tangentially familiar with Buffy or had really low standards.

Good to know.

Let's put it this way, I'm more entertained by Demons upon reflection than I ever was with Hex.

But you say Primeval actually has a storyline in Series II to follow? I might give it another look then.

I find Demons to be mildly entertaining, enough that I'll watch the whole series, but I wouldn't be too upset if I missed it.

Primeval does have a story arc to it in the second series, kinda following on from the ending of the first series, where the time line has totally change.

So Episode 3...

I'm getting used to the series, I wish a lot of things were slightly different, but...

Why set a Bomb with a Timer for an hour?, why not 20 minutes or less?

Made no sense.
