I hope they use a spacey remix of the musical Wicked's song "Defying Gravity."
I read this whole thread waiting to make that joke. Just too slow, I guess.

As always, I love Ron Livingston. And it will be nice to see Laura Harris in something.

ABC has picked up FtvS-produced sci-fi series Gravity, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The show, starring Ron Livingston, Laura Harris, Christina Cox, Malik Yoba and Florentine Lahme, revolves around eight astronauts who undertake a mysterious six-year mission through the solar system.
"Since we originally pitched Gravity to the international marketplace as Grey's Anatomy in space, getting the series on the network that has Grey's and makes the most successful sci-fi show on TV in Lost is a good fit," FtvS vice president David Madden said.
The 13-episode series is slated to air on ABC this summer.
You're saying it's going to be Sorcerer's Gravity?Maybe "Defying" is like "Philosopher's"
No worries, so long as it's an entertaining side track I don't care...Sound's like a recipe from the Unseen University.
Sorry Bob didn't mean to derail this. It sounds interesting but I hope it doesn't disappear into its own navel.

They were pitching it as Lost meets Grey's in space. As in on going mystery like Lost, Emotional drama like Grey's.WTF? It's a medical show?Since we originally pitched Gravity to the international marketplace as Grey's Anatomy in spaceFuture medical shows, errrgh...made-up medicine just doesn't go over well.
Or is that just nonsense, simply because Grey's is wildly successful?
Okay. Just as long as it doesn't have the teeth-gratingly pretentious/mawkish soapy style of Gray's, which I find unwatchable. Does anyone who's likely to watch a sci fi series really want that? Do we want soapy angst and love triangles at all? I wonder if this is another case of the TV honchos not appreciating the wide differences in what audiences of one genre vs another really want.
im not sure I want to watch it now, ive seen Greys Anatomy, I never want to see it again.Grey's Anatomy in space
Oh my God so much whining!
Read THR article before complaining ad nauseum before tuning in and watching every week, before complaining about its cancellation.
I for one am glad to see a spacey space show. I'll watch anything Ron Livingston is in plus it has the added bonus of Christina Cox! Plus it's supposed to air this summer.
Grey's Anatomy in space?Where's a vomit smilie?
Grey's Anatomy in space?Where's a vomit smilie?
I'm hoping that's just some bean counter who thinks the comparison will help the show out rather than a description of their actual approach.

Me too. I think it's probably just a "Look women, emotions, please watch."
That is true. A lot of SF&F shows that have large female audiences don't have soapy bullshit. B5, Red Dwarf, Supernatural and BSG are ones that spring to mind. And any time any soapy angst were tried to be injected in to those there was a fan backlash.I'm hoping that's just some bean counter who thinks the comparison will help the show out rather than a description of their actual approach.

That's my fear. Stoopid beancounters don't realize that female viewers likely to tune into Gravity are NOT the same, and do not want the same things in a TV show, as female viewers (or male for that matter) who like Gray's. And the Gray's crowd isn't going to watch sci fi regardless of the amount of soap injected into it.
Just look at the negative reaction to the love quadrangle on Lost - male and female fans were both roundly derisive of it. Who the heck did they create that plotline for? People who aren't watching the show anyway, that's who. Dumb.
They're making the classic mistake of thinking genre audiences (sci fi vs medical show) are interchangeable. I hope what otherwise would be a promising series doesn't suffer because of it.
My observations of female sf/f genre fans suggest that if the beancounters want to lock in that audience, they need to imitate the Wincest and Petrellicest formula. That is certainly a raging success.![]()
oh, I'm not angry. I think it's just a hook, "Grey's Anatomy meets Lost" 2 popular shows. I'll be checking it out no matter what.Well, let's wait until we actually see it before getting all angry. The Grey's Anatomy comparison is a one-line pitch, and you can do that concept as well-written character drama about people in a stressful environment who're coping with it in varied ways (off the top of my head, Scrubs and Cardiac Arrest both come to mind), or soapey swill (Grey's, Casualty after 1992).
