Deep Space Nine ReLaunch

Mike Winters

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Greetings all, been away from Trek BBS for quite some time now (though not from Trek Novels). I am currently re-reading all of the DS9 Relaunch Novels (I am up to the Ghemor side of the Fearful Symmetry novel).

I was wondering if there has been any exploration of the Ascendant Story line or the fact that Odo is running the Dominion in any of the novels subsequent novels. I believe there was some a reference to an Ascendant in the Typon Pact novel where Kira is a Vedek.

Welcome back, Mike Winters. :)

The Odo plotline remains unresolved, nor do we know of any plans to return to it, but who knows what the upcoming David R. George III two-parter might reveal? As for the Ascendants, while we haven't yet been given details of what happened between The Soul Key and the post-Nemesis timeframe, you're right that Rough Beasts of Empire featured a brief apperance by Raiq (the Ascendant who served as our introduction to the culture in Rising Son), so we have some information regarding the aftermath of the Ascendant conflict (assuming there was one). Raiq is studying at a monastery on Bajor, seemingly as a pupil of Vedek Kira, so at least some of the Ascendants are allies now, or at least no longer in conflict with the Bajoran faithful.

When it comes to the new novels dealing with ds9 I hope they'll deal with the ascendant storyline and what happened to Odo and we'll find out what happened to unfinished ds9 storylines.I want to buy DRG's books to see what happens next ToSisko and other ds9 characters in the novels than just brief appearences in the Typhon pact books.

I'm hoping to see some resolution, but who knows? At least the author is good so we can expect a good story out of it.

Me too. Even if we don't see every second of the time gap, I'm hopping we can at least get more details.

Isn't that Fanfic and not actually sanctioned by CBS or whomever decides these things and all just your fanciful supposition?

Of course. But that doesn't mean I can't push it, or that the OP might to want to read it if he wants an idea of what might have happened.

.

The novels are just "fanciful supposition" too; they're official in the sense that CBS authorizes their sale and approves their content, but they're not binding, since any other tie-in such as the comics or Star Trek Online can freely disregard or contradict them.

Well, there's a danger with resolving all plot arcs in an ongoing sage. People take the opportunity to jump ship. If the Ascendant arc is fully addressed in the upcoming duology, expect new arcs to have been commenced.

That's what I'm hoping for, that the upcoming duology will resolve some of these long-standing questions and give the DS9-R the kick in the butt it needs.
