Deep Breath to have individual DVD/Blu-ray release?

Amazon has an individual DVD/Blu-ray release of Deep Breath up for pre-order to be released on September 9.

Blu-ray

Anyone know anything about this? I usually follow TV Shows on DVD, but they have no mention of this. Also, why is this episode getting an individual release? Yeah, I know, it's the much hyped premiere of the Peter Capaldi era, but isn't this overkill? It's bad enough the Christmas specials get individual releases despite being included in the season box sets, but the season premiere itself? Just an ordinary episode? I don't know.

I found out about this today. I'm baffled by its existence, honestly. I guess they feel they can make money on a no-frills DVD release. *shrug*

the specials often get their own dvd/ blu-ray and Deep Breath is longer than most of those. it's about 75-80 mins i think

^^70 minutes according to Amazon.

Meanwhile, I just checked TV Shows on DVD and they now have a page about this.

Though it is somewhat sad, Deep Breath is getting all this attention, yet the ones who read the script say it's actually a disappointing episode.

Initial reviews are in here in the UK and seem pretty positive.

To many things have been slammed from script leaks, I'm reserving judgement.

I've seen this kind of thing happen with other shows. The 90 minute premiere of Stargate Atlantis got its own DVD release before later being included with the rest of Season 1.

Overall, September 9 is a good day to be a Doctor Who fan. Not only do you have "Deep Breath" on DVD but you've also got the first 3 original novels featuring Capaldi's Doctor. (Which is also good news for Clara fans since Clara only appeared in 1 of the Matt Smith books.) "Engines of War," featuring John Hurt's War Doctor, comes out in the U.S. on that date as well.
