Decent Trek collection question.

Boy that title sounds weird. But it's catchy imo. Anywho...

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I really had no idea where to go with this question, but I am a big believer in forums so I headed over to Google, typed in Star Trek forums and this link was on top.

Anyhow, the situation. Best friend is moving in for a while, also getting married in about 4 months, 900 sq. foot apartment just isn't enough room.

The question. I have a rather large VHS collection of Star Trek series that is taking up a lot of room and I have no idea the worth of this collection should I try and sell it.

We are talking every single episode of every single series outside Enterprise. They are from Columbia House or something similar to that. The cases they come in have their own series unique design and are each numbered. I would say 90% of the cases are in mint condition. Is this collection worth anything?

I would greatly appreciate any help/info on this matter. Thanks a lot!

p.s. My mother bought them for me some years ago at a yard sale. She had no idea the worth of them, and the seller's husband has recently died and she wanted to get rid of them. Total price? $25. :)

I'd doubt they'd be worth much. VHS Tapes Deteriorate so they won't last forever. I would try and sell them ASAP, or perhaps donate them to your local library or rec centre etc.

Cheers

Dave

Or, you could just keep them until you upgrade to DVD or eventually Blu-Ray.
Its always fun to watch a random trek episode whenever you feel like it.

If you don't have them on DVD I would hang on to them until you can afford to upgrade to Blu-Ray. If you do have them on DVD already I would say try to sell them ASAP, but I doubt you'll have too much luck.

By the time Paramount releases Trek on Blu-Ray, a new format is already going to be around.

I'm afraid that I don't think VHS collections are worth very much, if anything. Over here in the UK that seems to be the case. I know loads of people who have just taken their vhs collections to the local tip (landfill) and started replacing on dvd.

Sadly, your collection is probably not worth very much. I have every episode of every series on VHS (TOS taped in reruns, all others taped from original broadcasts). I would certainly not throw them out as others have suggested. If cared for they are good for a very long time, and they really evoke the era in which they were broadcast as they have all of the period commercials. I have more than a few tapes I made in the early 1980's that look and sound fine today. I am slowly acquiring all of the series on disc, but I still watch my VHS tapes all the time. There is no reason you can't watch them. I would hang on to them.
