December Challenge: When Gods Smile

Amazing story. I couldn't even fathom that they would hide behind the Prime Directive, and do nothing, and I was so relieved when Owen went and did the right thing there. The prose was good, clean and it's really damn good to see that innate humanity and decency hasn't been overruled by regulations.

Great work, CeJay!

Neat story. Really did wonder whether Owens was going to be a stickler for the Prime Directive and if he would have had it in him to actually allow the meteor to strike without the intervention of the 'dream'. One also wonders at the nature of the 'dream' - was it his guilt? a higher power?

Either way a neat story. P.S. did try to google the meteor shower mentioned in story but found nothing definite but was it a real event?

I really enjoyed this story. It reminded me somewhat of an old Arthur C. Clarke story, but to be honest, I liked your ending better.

I agree...I like that we don't know whether he would've actually saved that civilization without being put in their shoes by that dream.

Great story. I was just starting to mentally grumble about another entry not doing the time-travel thing when your captain ended up in the past( ;) ). A very heart-felt Xmas story. Loved it.

Very nice! I wonder how thorough a grilling SFC gave Owens about his convenient little accident?

And who was it that destroyed the asteroid heading for Earth... the Vulcans perhaps?

Just nice to see something good happen for a change when a captain takes the Tactical station. ;)

Great story! Loved the ending with Owens coming out to do some tactical training - the reactions of the bridge crew would have been great to see on screen.

Hey, thanks for all the great feedback.

I'm usually not very good with the light-hearted stories, so this was quite the challenge for me.

I was fascinated by the idea of somebody acting like the guardian angel for Earth before Starfleet and the Federation. If there was somebody out there shooting meteors out of the sky and ensuring humanity's survival how do you justify the Prime Directive?

Thanks for reading.

Well it was a great job as to who stopped the meteor maybe it was Santa's sleigh - could explain Rudolph's red nose!
