Neat! Inca/Mayan/Aztec? I have a hard time distinguishing between them all.

- I had a quick look at lunchtime and thought the same thing. What a great idea! I hope we'll get to see more.

pattern on dish similar to pattern on dish / wheel of George Pal time machine. Other than that, I got nothin'.

It's Aztec yes, the sun calendar. The Sun God in there 'scares' away stuff that would collide with the ship. Gods work peacefully together with humans in this ship. I'm still figuring out how the ship moves though. While the nacelles will have Quetzalcoatl Collectors up front, and blue mosaic tiles for warp coils, I'm still puzzling how to make it look good and how a thing like "impulse engines" work. Slaves that wave at fires to move the ship forward perhaps? Sounds a bit barbaric though, even if it fits in the time. Then again not using slaves for anything would be a revolutionary concept for the Aztecs, keeping it in line with Gene's vision. It will also fire Photon Obsidian Spears for torpedoes. Can you imagine? A couple of red̵s̵̵h̵̵i̵̵r̵̵t̵s̵ exposed upper bodies pulling this large sling to catapult the POS's towards the unlucky ̵K̵̵l̵̵i̵̵n̵̵g̵̵o̵̵n̵s̵ Spaniards in their inferior wooden Boats-of-Prey?

So, I finally got over my fear of the nacelles (and, truth to be told, my Secret Santa project which had priority). Quetzalcoatl came out pretty good, it's just missing the fangs but I need to look into how I can make them. Clicking the picture will direct you to both pictures!

I've already been busy with making the football. In this universe, the footballs are home to a pair of spirits continuously trying to fight each other, thus keeping the ship balanced. I'm also looking into the god of fire; he is mostly portrayed as a statue with a disc on his head. Well, wouldn't you say that's an excellent phaser turret? ;-)

The original enterprise didn't fire torpedoes from the neck, right?

A bit more colour, engines all done too. Now the windows, I guess. Also pondering if I should name the ship and what to do about a registry. Probing deep into Aztec culture but it's not going the way I want it...

This is brilliant! I love the thought that you've put into the nacelles, especially. The Quetzalcoatl Collectors and the idea of the fighting spirit "footballs" balancing the ship are just perfect.

To me the dish resembles a Hattach from one of Stargate SG1' system lords.

I had a look, just to be sure, but... No, I'm not really seeing it:

Fair enough!

Anyway, here's my final submission. The textures suck at this scale but I was really running out of time. So present you with...
Chantli Tehuantinpan (which roughly translates as Home Above Us)

This whole thing is creeping me out for some reason.

But since the purpose of art is to draw an emotional reaction, I'm going to say: Great job!

I think that's because you're just afraid Capitan Kirk will throw you in the God - Anti God sacrificial pit to appease them ;-)

Well, maybe - but really it's the whole concept. Aztec society was scary enough to begin with, but put them in the vacuum of deep space and I think you just might have something that even the Reavers from "Firefly" would avoid. :shudder:
