Deaver, Jeffery Deaver

Writer
In Memoriam
will be writing the next James Bond novel.

Wow. One of my and the wife's favourite thriller writers (tied with Dean Koontz, I guess)

I'm tempted to guarantee this'll be better than Faulks' one... Shame it's set in the present day though.

(I'd also say it's a shame that they've gone over to having big-name writers slumming it instead of replacing Raymond Benson with, you know, reliable tie-in writers like myself... But that kind of goes without saying)

Deaver is my favourite non-Trek author and I have to say that I agree with you. It will be far superior to Faulks' novel because Faulks is a literary writer, not a thriller writer.

Arguing with the purists, Deaver's Bond may even be better than Flemings, as Deaver is a research junkie. I guess I'd also like to see Van Lustbader tackle a Bond book. He does all right with the Bourne books.

What happened with Benson? I thought he'd only just taken over from Gardner. Well, I say just, it's probably a couple of years.

Wow, he took over 13 years ago! And resigned two years ago!

Time flies! But was there a reason, or did he just stop?

Dunno, but either way he'd passed his peak, like Gardner before him...

I've just read the Faulkes novel and was quite underwhelmed. But Deaver has never overly impressed me either.

Now, announce a Lee Child or Stephen Hunter Bond novel and I may well wet myself on this or another public forum.
