I don't necessarily agree about the human villain idea, but I think there are far more possibilities than that.

so do we think it's a good idea to harvest TOS characters for villains? you know, like they did with Khan.

I think you all miss it guys. The next sequel write itself off easily considering this movie. No need to look around for a plotline.

I think Klingons got cut, according to something I read somewhere (I know, really helpful), because they didn't test well in test screenings. People couldn't figure out what was going on at Rura Penthe. Why are these bad guys fighting with these other bad guys? And who are they?

I think it will be included as a DVD extra or maybe part of an extended cut.

Yes, movies need villains.

Star Trek should not shy away from its proven villains (Klingons, Romulans, Khan, Koloth, Kang etc.) anymore than the new Batman franchise should have been afraid to use Joker just because *gasp* he had already appeared in a movie.

Is Khan appearing as a villain once every 20 years or so really that excessive? It's hard for me to classify the character as overused.

He's been used TWICE in the last 40 years, once on a TV show from the 60's and once in a movie from the 80's.

Yes, movies need villains.

While 5 actors have already personified the Joker in the same timeframe.

I agree. With a good reboot that make him like really, really mean, he would be great.

I know, probably, none of you will ever read these forums, but what the hell...

First of all...job well done. Bravo. You did the impossible. Star Trek is fantastic.

But that's not why I'm writing this. I'm writing this to say a few things about the next film.

First...please, no Khan. No Klingons. No reimaginings of old episodes. No more time travel and no more cameos by past characters from any show. None of the original actors playing grandfathers or relatives or the person who inspired or taught.

Not that I think you'd do any of that, but just saying.

You know what I'd really like to see? And I think there are other people out there like me.

I'd like to see strange, new worlds. I'd like to see new life and new civilizations. I'd like to see the crew...and the story...boldly go where no Trek has gone before.

Did you read the article that's posted on here from May 12th...titled Star Trek XIII -charting the unpredictable....if you haven't go check it out...it looks like they may be anything BUT unpredicatable.... they are talking KHAN!

WTF??? Shinzon? He's from the TNG era, dead, and a train wreck to begin with. Possibly the worst baddie idea in all of Trek. Please, no.

Whatever they decide to do, I'd love to see the Enterprise way, way off in some distant corner of the galaxy...away from Earth and Starfleet, out on its own exploring. I think it would be interesting too to see something happen to Kirk that really propels him forward to the mature, confident captain we saw on TOS. Let the crew make some kind of inadvertent mistake in first contact with some new civilization and have to work together to fix it...I don't know...just no "OMG, Earth is in danger and the Enterprise is the only one who can stop it!"

Put the new crew on the bleeding edge of the final frontier and show us what they can do!

Completely agree. In fact I'd even love it if they took a page from VOY and have the Enterprise stranged on the other side of the galaxy-- or even the other side of the freakin universe (Obviously with much better writing, of course).

There's no need to put Earth in jeapordy again-- just a movie about their struggle to survive in a hostile environment, fight off hostile aliens, and engineer a way back to our galaxy would be damn exciting enough.

Plus it would be a chance to see some new planets and new threats.

Send them to a galaxy with no humanoid aliens.

Passing mentions, like in this film, are fine with me. I just mean, no plot that centers around Klingons, or Klingons being the main antagonists.
