Dear Abrams, Orci, Kurtzman & Co.

I agree completely, though I'll echo the sentiment that I wouldn't mind seeing Klingons as long as they don't feature prominently in the film.

If the creative team does, for whatever reason, give in to temptation and re-use villains like Khan, then I hope they have enough sense to do something interesting and drastically different with them -- because, as the OP states, I would like to see some things I haven't seen before.

I know, probably, none of you will ever read these forums, but what the hell...

First of all...job well done. Bravo. You did the impossible. Star Trek is fantastic.

But that's not why I'm writing this. I'm writing this to say a few things about the next film.

First...please, no Khan. No Klingons. No reimaginings of old episodes. No more time travel and no more cameos by past characters from any show. None of the original actors playing grandfathers or relatives or the person who inspired or taught.

Not that I think you'd do any of that, but just saying.

You know what I'd really like to see? And I think there are other people out there like me.

I'd like to see strange, new worlds. I'd like to see new life and new civilizations. I'd like to see the crew...and the story...boldly go where no Trek has gone before.

Thank you, and I have faith. :)

If you guys have seen the season finales of Lost and Fringe over the past two days you know these guys are absolute geniuses when it comes to science fiction. Fringe is now a legitimately great show after last nights episode (it blew my mind) and the Lost 2 hour episode was absolutely stunning. We can expect only good things from here on out from JJ and Co. :bolian::techman:

Wow what a huge week it was for these guys. $100 million movie in 5 days, Fringe, and Lost finales. WOW.

It's a brand new Star Trek universe. I sure as hell want to see some Klingons in it. Star Trek just isn't Star Trek without Klingons.

If I were to speak to those guys. I would say good job on Star Trek. But, while I know the real story of this new movie was about the original Star Trek characters and how they met each other. Which was well done. I'm on the opinion that the supposedly main storyline with Nero was pretty thin. Basically a cardboard villain with questionable motivation and not a lot actually happening on that front. Basically he destroys Vulcan, heads for earth, the Enterprise catch him, they fight, they win.

I don't have any don't, since I'm always open to good stories. But I just wish now that the characters are introduced. The next movie will have better depth on the drama, explorations, mystery and/or social commentary side. I think its part of what put Star Trek above other sci-fi action blockbuster fare.

I think a movie like The Island with the screenplay written by you (Orci and Kurtzman) is a good example of an action Sci-fi story with some meat. Matrix, 12 Monkeys, Batman Returns are other examples.

I'd like to see this Nu Crew run ibto that now-probably-really-pissed-off-toward Humans-Drydock from the Dead Stop episode of Enterprise.

I would like to see some radically reinvented Klingons. Other than that, I agree with the OP.

Yep. If they handle Klingon characters the way they've handled everything in this movie I'd be interested for sure.

Khan, I imagine they will hold for later (if ever). In terms of PR he's a gimme. :)

Right on! I totally agree. I think these writers will mostly do exactly that. Part of me wonders about Captain Kirk and all coming back as a bearded space pirate who somehow escaped the nexus or whatever. But, yes, time to move on. Nimoy was perfect---but that's it. Goodbye.

Same with Klingons--part of me want to see them again---but, no. Let it go.

Strange new worlds.

Well then, given the technical capabilities now available, I propose something simply not really possible before: a non-humanoid race. Like really non-humanoid, not Xindi Insectoid; big, 10-legged quartz-base thingy, i don't know. Something like that. What do you think?

All the way man! Totally! Or maybe a feldspar, micah, quartz hybrid---could be called "Granitor." Seriously, I'm all for whacked out old style aliens. TOS always had weird weird weird stuff. They should return to that idea using the updated effects.

agreed about the Klingons.

also, please, NO Time Travel. and NO holodecks. and NO vengeful villains.

oh, and NO planet killers or whales.

uh, where's urbandk?

just saw this! yeah i feel like i've posted this message fifty times.

NO time travel. NO vengeful villains. NO planet killers.

maybe a baby beluga though.

also, totally agree with T'Baio's point:

PLEASE: Strange New Worlds.

PLEASE: Something Completely New.

:techman:

I would like to add that Earth should not be in danger in the next one. I would do something like what a lot of the best episodes of TOS (and the other series) did, and that's finding a new civilization, but what they're doing is endangering their own planet and solar system.

Think along the lines of "A Taste of Armageddon", where Earth is not in danger, but what the Eminians and Vendikans were doing endangered themselves, and ultimately the Enterprise, but all they were doing was living their own way.

Something like that, and I think it could be done well on a feature film scale.

Quoted for fucking truth.

Friend, you nailed it. I agree whole-heartedly.

Good job guys, but please, please forget Khan ever existed. No nuKhan. No nuWhales. Just nu will suffice. nuNew. :D

Whatever they decide to do, I'd love to see the Enterprise way, way off in some distant corner of the galaxy...away from Earth and Starfleet, out on its own exploring. I think it would be interesting too to see something happen to Kirk that really propels him forward to the mature, confident captain we saw on TOS. Let the crew make some kind of inadvertent mistake in first contact with some new civilization and have to work together to fix it...I don't know...just no "OMG, Earth is in danger and the Enterprise is the only one who can stop it!"

Put the new crew on the bleeding edge of the final frontier and show us what they can do! :)
