Dear Abrams, Orci, Kurtzman & Co.

I know, probably, none of you will ever read these forums, but what the hell...

First of all...job well done. Bravo. You did the impossible. Star Trek is fantastic.

But that's not why I'm writing this. I'm writing this to say a few things about the next film.

First...please, no Khan. No Klingons. No reimaginings of old episodes. No more time travel and no more cameos by past characters from any show. None of the original actors playing grandfathers or relatives or the person who inspired or taught.

Not that I think you'd do any of that, but just saying.

You know what I'd really like to see? And I think there are other people out there like me.

I'd like to see strange, new worlds. I'd like to see new life and new civilizations. I'd like to see the crew...and the story...boldly go where no Trek has gone before.

Thank you, and I have faith. :)

agreed about the Klingons.

also, please, NO Time Travel. and NO holodecks. and NO vengeful villains.

oh, and NO planet killers or whales.

uh, where's urbandk?

I agree with mostly everything but dude, no Klingon at all?

Passing mentions, like in this film, are fine with me. I just mean, no plot that centers around Klingons, or Klingons being the main antagonists.

I want to see something new.

Amen. I think as fans Orci & Kurtzman will probably want to re-imagine past stories and characters but I hope they don't, and if they do, it only plays marginally in the story. Because face it, you're not going to be able to top Khan by re-doing him (that sounds perverse, I know). I think a part of the reason why Nero felt stale and might not have worked so much is because I felt they were trying to emulate Khan a bit too much. Time to start heading in a new(er) direction.

It's funny but your signature actually kind of implies the opposite. Think about it.

I agree They wanted a clean slate then use it and create something new, I mean sure the Klingon's might be involved, but I have no interest in them revisiting and interpreting stuff from the series, I don't need their version of Harry Mudd etc... but they seem to have an atitude where they have to show that they can do it better, treat the next movie as it was an original Trek Novel, give us something new.

Yeah I know exactly what you are implying. However, Ledger's Joker was a radical departure from Nicholson's Joker. Would radically departing from Montalban's Khan be a good thing? I don't know. Unlike The Joker, he was created in the comics, and is able to be re-created multiple different ways after years and years of history. Khan was created by Montalban. I guess this argument then nullifies the whole concept of "re-casting" in general (and by extension re-casting Kirk, Spock, etc., and making the whole movie moot..), but I guess, thusly contradicting my own argument, that if they do want to re-do Khan, to do it really well.

I agree wholeheartedly! I mean, I don't mind Klingons as background characters or something but I don't want them as main villains. I'd love to finally go see what's out there! I want new worlds and new civilizations! I don't mind if we see some Gorn or Andorians along the way... I just hope we get new stories and not re-hashes!

Well then, given the technical capabilities now available, I propose something simply not really possible before: a non-humanoid race. Like really non-humanoid, not Xindi Insectoid; big, 10-legged quartz-base thingy, i don't know. Something like that. What do you think?

I think Klingons should be used but obviously not as the big baddie.

Though, who knows, they may be able to do it with a lot more weight they were used in the TOS films.

I agree. Well said. With one exception. I wouldn't mind seeing some Klingons as tertiary characters. As you further elaborated up the thread, nothing that centers around them.

I was just about to post pretty much the same thing. I would like to see Klingons but more in the background, something similar to The Motion Picture. Andorians would cool, but I would be happy with new aliens that have never been seen before.

It was pretty trippy seeing the classic Klingon ships of TOS on the big screen again, regardless. That made me kind of salivate for more Klingons, but definitely as background characters.

I hate this line of reasoning as it leads, as you say, to this movie never being made, to allowing the CHARACTERS of Kirk, Spock, McCoy etc, who are as immortal and enduring as King Arthur and Robin Hood, to be slaves to the actors who played them, who unfortunately are NOT so immortal.

So, as someone glad Kirk and Spock were recast, I say bring on Khan. Or Koloth.

Honestly, I think this is what they SHOULD do. Just like Dark Knight didn't shy away from Joker, Trek shouldn't be afraid of using its iconic villains.

Yeah, I can see your point. I still say, Javier Bardem for Khan! If they are going to do Khan, that is.

I would like to see some radically reinvented Klingons. Other than that, I agree with the OP.

Well, I wouldn't mind Khan, either.

The way the aliens looks shouldn't be fiddle with too much. The Vulcans and Romulans get to look the same, so most of the other races should as well. But I'd like to avoid the Klingons or any other already established race as the big bad. There doesn't have to be some new, super-powerful race every movie, just give us some great villains. New races, new ships. Please.

You're going to get the budget. You've got our attention (and a lot of other people's as well). Give us something new.

One more for new life and new civilizations.
