Deanna/Worf relationship - how did it develop?

Don't forget the old saying that "If you don't get the guy, date his best friend." Worf was Riker's best friend. I thought they played that angle too.

But Trills were even more fragile. They couldn't even withstand a transporter beam (or at least originally). ;)

The transporter supposedly filtered out parasites, which the Trill species depends on for survival. Dax also more than prooved herself to be a physical match for Worf in the bedroom, at the cost of injury to herself at times.

I greatly doubt Troi was a good, physical, match for Worf in the bedroom and Worf would of had to greatly restrain himself to prevent from shattering Troi's pelvis into a million pieces.

Sorry, I hated the Worf/Troi 'ship as, for me, it seemd to come pretty much out of nowhere and is just an example, of many, of how the lame-duck second tier Season-7 writers had no fucking clue what they were doing and were pretty much out of ideas.

"Uhh... Let's make the hot babe with the nice rack hook up with the Klingon."

Shit, I bet it was Braga's idea.

Oh, but worse than that 'ship? Chakotay and Seven in Voyager! That came more out of nowhere than a cock in your ass and a "Fuckity Yipeee!" from a fellow prisoner with Tourette when you bend over to pick up the soap.

Two things, Treker:

1) The Trill worms are not parasites. They're symbionts. There's a difference. :)

2) As I state previously, there's tons of foreshadowing and groundwork laid down as far back as season 5 for a Worf/Troi romance, it was just done in a way that if the writers wound up not doing anything with it, we the audience would never have known otherwise.

3) ...unlike the Chakotay/Seven debacle.

That's three things.

1) The Trill worms are not parasites. They're symbionts. There's a difference.

I guess it depends on which "Trill" we're talking about. In "The Host" they're heavily suggested to be more parasitic in nature and more take-over and feed off the body. Odan completely took over Riker and there were concerns about what the Trill was doing to Riker's body and getting it out before it had consumed too much for Riker to be viable by himself. (And by "consume" I don't mean it was eating him form the inside out, I mean more consuming Riker's life-force.) By the time DS9 rolled around the Trill had completely changed to a more symbiotic species. It's almost as if, really, they were two different species which we could argue they were. The P'Trill in TNG and the Trill in DS9 onward.;)

;)

And yes a relationship, platonic, was set-up between Word and Troi early on but that doesn't equate to a romantic relationship. Worf himself in, IIRC, Yesterday's Enterprise says he doesn't like human women because he find them to fragile and he'd have to be too restrained to mate with them. Look at the aftermaths of him and Dax's nights together, Dax often acted like she was hit by a truck. Do you really think Counselor Deanna "What's a Warp-Core Breech" Troi could 'keep up with" Worf in bed?

Perhaps that's why the relationship failed? Worf had to be too restrained? Regardless, for me, their romantinc relationship came mostly out of nowhere and made no sense. Yes, they always had something of a bond and connection but it's not one that ever struck me as being romantic.

Worf/Troi was something I could never make up my mind over whether I liked or not.

I thought the friendship that developed between them over the course of the series was very nicely done considering the show's episodic nature. More often than not I tended to really enjoy they're interactions on screen together which probably stemmed from the whole 'odd couple' angle.

As for the relationship itself, aside from Alexander and the fact that they were both nobles -i.e Fifth House, House of Mogh, I couldn't see what else they had in common that could sustain a long term relationship. They would have been arguing over everything non-stop given their cultures and personalities. It might have been interesting to watch for a while but then it would have gotten old rather quickly.

Funnily enough, I never had a problem wondering about the physical aspect of the relationship. At the time I figured that Deanna kept up with him because (a) she was the daughter of Lwaxana and (b) she was empathic -think Perfect Mate.

I tend to avoid comparing Worf/Troi and Worf/Dax due to the fact that when Worf hit DS9 he became a darker and far more badass character. I wouldn't go as far as to say that he was different character, but there were differences. I couldn't even see Troi and DS9-Worf even having much in the way of interaction let alone a relationship.

*shrugs* I think my biggest regret over the Worf/Troi 'ship is that we never got to see what an empathic half-klingon would be like...brat growls, hits someone and falls over clutching their head.

It was still better than Riker/Troi though.

Any child produced from Troi and Worf would've been half Klingon, 1/4 human and 1/4 Betazoid. It's pretty unlikely it woul've had any empathic abilities.

Troi was a pretty powerful empath and if I remember correctly that love interest of hers from The Price was 1/4 Betazoid and empathic to boot.

It was a bit of a joke anyway, the mental image amuses me.

When did the attraction develop, probably when Troi, her mother, Alexander, and Worf all shared the lovely mud hot tub bath thing together.
