It's totally worth it.
it's not for everyone. but for me, there is no better show.
I highly recommend it. Watch the first episode or two, judge for yourself, and head back to the store for Season 2 while it's cheap. 
I bought it sight unseen like that as well. However, I do know some people who really liked it so felt it was worth the blind buy based on their appreciation of the show.I got season 1 of Deadwood for 12 bucks at Walmart
I haven't watched it yet, and I would like to know how good a show it is and if it's worth getting season 2 right now
I've got about 6-7 other season sets, not to mention movies, lined up in front of it though. Maybe by the time I get to Deadwood S2&3 will go on sale also.
Brad Dourif is great. He's the local Doctor for Deadwood. I think he shows up in the second or third episode. He's one of the semi-main characters. He's in pretty much the whole series.
Deadwood is fantastic; probably one of the best series of the last few years. I suggest watching the extras first, as the writer explains why he wrote it the way he did, using modern curse words as opposed to the curse words of the time.
The writing, the characters, the actors are all just brilliant and it comes together so well. I adore this show, and I usually don't care much for Westerns, in general.

I bought the series set a year or so ago without having previously seen any episodes. By the time I was done watching the show, I was damn glad I had picked it up.

I liked it the first season, but I was kind of disappointed in the last season, I felt like it was kind of anti-climatic.
The other issue I had with it was the way in which they had the characters speak. Frankly in the last couple of seasons, I had no clue what was going on about half the time.
Oh, I think the language is fairly clear...

The whole series is great and apparently the new Blu-ray release is awesome.
OK you've pretty much convinced me to watch this show.
