Deadpool movie.

If they do a movie about Deadpool, a Marvel superhero, which has been rumored/batted around for the last few years do you thin they'll keep Deadpool's "power" of being meta? In the comics Deadpool is aware he's in a comic book and makes comments about it and to the reader. Do you think would be incorporated into a movie or do you think it's be breaking the fourthwall too much?

I could maybe see it working only in a "he talks to the camera in Ferris Beuler sort-of way" sense but not in a "everything that is happening is not real and I'm going to win no matter what" sort of way.

I believe that it was one of Reynolds' stipulations that he talk to the audience during the film and narrate his own trailer in character.

Yes the script review that Jackson Archer did for us a few months ago (you can probably still search for the thread) I believe mentions the fourth wall stuff. I can't remember myself now since it's been so long...

^ Yeah, someone who only has experience as an SFX helmer doesn't seem ideal; I would've thought someone with a penchant for black comedy would be a more obvious choice.

When they appoint SFX-specialists as first-time directors, the results may not always be as bad as Battlefield Earth but they rarely make for outstanding debuts (V For Vendetta?)

I love the visuals in "X2: X-Men United", "The Rundown", and "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World". Based on the fact that he contributed to those, I'd be optimistic about the chances of him having a solid directorial debut.

Tim Miller is an ... interesting choice. He's definitely got a good eye (he was involved in a lot of the branding and creative imagery when Microsoft was launching the Xbox in 2000 / 2001), but he's an artist and creative guy. What does he know about being the field marshal on a movie set? Has he ever been on a movie set?

Huh. You'd think they'd want a "known quality" sort of director for this one (someone suggested Edgar Wright, and I think he'd be perfect for Deadpool.)

I wonder if they figure a newbie director will be easier for the studio to control?

If Shane Black hadn't already signed on to direct Iron Man 3, I could see him helming Deadpool.

I don't have a problem with them going with a new guy. I doubt they just picked him at random. Besides, every director has to start somewhere.

The problem with Edgar Wright is that he's still hammering away at his "Ant-Man" script which he's determined to complete and film. Ultimately my fan boy choice for this flick was Robert Rodriguez.

Fox does seem to want to impose and influence creative control on these spin-off films (I believe the interference from the studio is what ultimately hurt "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" Gavin Hood wasn't able to protect the story he wanted to tell.

Basically I get the impression is that Bryan Singer is the only person along with Matthew Vaughn who has been able to stand up to the Fox brass. Oh well. This movie is still gonna depend on Ryan Reynolds availability. I don't see this coming out until late 2013 maybe early 2014.

Given that Deadpool is still a pretty obscure character, unknown to anyone who doesn't read comic books on a regular basis, I have to imagine hiring a first-timer like Miller is a sign that FOX plans to pay Reynolds his top-tier salary, and cut costs elsewhere.
