I watched "Deadlock" recently, and I got to thinking about something. Both the Star Trek Chronology and the Star Trek Encyclopedia refer to Harry Kim and Naomi Wildman as dying in this episode and being replaced by duplicates, and I see a similar notation at Memory Alpha. However, I didn't notice any evidence in the episode that indicated that either ship could be considered the "original" Voyager more than the other. Couldn't one just as easily posit that everyone aboard Voyager dies in this episode except Harry and Naomi, and the rest are replaced with duplicates from this point forward? What do you think?

Well I guess it could be said for 'Course Oblivion' too, as there were essentially two Voyagers, though they didn't go out of phase, there were actual duplicates made.

I actually haven't seen the episode in a while but doesn't one of the Voyagers not explode into nothingnes? If so, the crew on that Voyager didn't die so Naomi & Harry would be the duplicates of the two who did die on THAT Voyager.

You raise a good question though because both had similar situations up until the split happened so who can say which was the original one. Though I'm sure some tend to think the more damaged Voyager was the original because they were the first to be shown in the episode. But it could be said that they're both the originals because they split from the same Voyager. The whole thing gives me a headache.

Wasn't only one of them in the same "phase" as the Vidiians though? The other could only feel the energy blasts without being aware of where they came from? Wouldn't the ship that could be seen by the Vidiians be the real one? Mind you, I don't remember which one exploded, the one being pursued by the Vidiians or the one that could only feel the energy blasts.

Barring the idea of a soul, yes both ships were the original. That's the conundum of the ep. As Be'Lanna states: "We're like siamese twins joined at one single source of anti-matter." So both are the original, split into two seperate beings.

So all in all, a part of each crew memeber died that day. Thus creating a restart and yet not.

The one being pursued by the Vidiians was the one that self-destructed (they activated the self-destruct to prevent the Vidiians from taking the ship) which could imply they were the "more real" of the two, if one were to assume one was the original and another was merely a duplicate.

I may be mistaken, but was there ever a follow up to this episode, in either episode or literary form?
I think I remember something being mentioned about Harry not having the same quantum signature as the rest of the crew one time after being scanned.

You are correct that it was followed up. I think it was one of the String Theory novels.
