DEAD SPACE is here! Discussion thread ...

No offense meant TheBoo.
I will fully admit the game damn near made me shit my pants quite a few times.

None taken. I don't mind a challenge, but for me the challenge is just moving onto the next room. I have beaten Mega Man 2, so I do know what a real challenge is. :p

I beat the game yesterday. Very good game overall. I wish there'd been a melee weapon like some kind of cool engineering chainsaw but I understand having a weapon where you don't have to worry about ammo would take away a lot of the game's tension. There were several times, especially toward the end of the game where I had less than a clip of ammo in my guns. That would make it very exciting going into new areas with so few resources. But still, having you temporarily pick up some kind of cool melee weapon for half a chapter or something just to deal with a massive wave of guys might have been a really cool, gory sequence.

I'm not sure if I will play through it again right away, maybe tear through it with my fully upgraded Rig, Plasma Cutter, Kinesis and Stasis for the One Gun achievment.

I have a love/hate relationship with games that use the "protagonist doesn't speak" conceit like Half-Life's hero Gordon Freeman. On the one hand it really draws you into the game but on the other there are times when your characters lack of dialogue just makes them come across as... well, peculiar. Like with the girlfriend Nicole, you'd think he'd be a little more verbal whenever she contacts him throughout the game.

Overall though Dead Space is one of the absolute best single player games I have ever played. Bring on Dead Space 2!

I beat it last night too. Absolutely fantastic, balls-to-the wall tense game.

I played on hard and found myself in positions much like Evil Dead, having barely any ammo and maybe one health pack - it makes fights incredibly heart pounding when you're counting down how many shots you have left before you either succeed or die in some horrible way.

I have a fully upgraded rig and plasma cutter too, but I think playing through again on hard will be too tough to get the One Gun achievement - I think you really need to play through again on easy to get that.

Question: if you start a new game on a different difficulty setting, do you still have access to Level 6 armor?

Did you realized that any weapon in your hand can be used as for melee?
I think that is a great idea.

I finished my second run through on hard last night with mostly leveled up weapons.
MAN! what a great game!!
I took it right to the end in leveling everything up but got the achievement.
I sold a ton of med and stasis packs to do so.
I also sold some of my ammo here and there and didn't think I'd make it through some parts but i did it.
It's kind of a trade because as you level the weapon up it doesn't take as much ammo to kill the Necro's.
Having the military suit helps too.

I played again on hard so I had a message at the start that indicated so (can remember exactly what it said).
Anyhoo, I went right to a store because beating the game on hard gives you 10 nodes.
The armor was there then.

Pretty cool because your saves are labeled "Round 2"

Just finished Dead Space: Downfall.
Just like the game it's great.

It tied into the game perfectly.

It was cool to see the same sets drawn almost exactly as in the game and to hear the same sound effects.

If you enjoyed Dead Space pick up Dead Space: Downfall. ;)

I'm gonna have to get the graphic novel now as it ties into the movie.

Yeah, I was really jazzed when the security team went into the morgue, and it looked exactly as it does in the game. You can almost imagine some of the bodies lying around in the morgue being those of the characters killed in that room during the scene in the animated film.

I thought the Atrium was spot on.
I would have love to see the shuttle bay that was at the end of the movie.

Do you also get the feeling that those light up "chainsaw" type melee weapons used in the film were originally planned to be in the game?

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if someone eventually mods those into the PC version of the game and that the data for those weapons are actually already in the game.

Those would have so been cool.

Not to jump jump back to the part two thread BUT..

Seeing the one guy crash land the shuttle on the Isimura made me think it would be cool to have some sort of mini flying mission.

They already had the look in the cockpit/gunner mode.

Maybe it would have been cool if you were the one to move the shuttle instead of the doctor.

Some of the minor complaints I read where that the game was to "repetitive" (I didn't think so) but that may have satisfied them.

Honestly, what game isn't repetitive.

Just got Dead Space: Downfall back from a buddy I lent it to and he loved it as well.

If you haven't gotten this game yet, it's being reported that Target is selling it on Black Friday for $30 for the PS3 and 360.

Played the first 10 minutes or so and outside of some of the slick interface stuff, I'm unimpressed so far. Seen a lot of horror game cliche's and none of it is scary. I'll probably go back to it once I finish off fallout 3, hopefully it improves. The forced 3rd person perspective really bugs the shit out of me.

Nope, if you play through with the same save to keep your accumulated stuff, it's locked into that difficulty. If you're save says round 2, the diff hasn't changed. And you can get the one-gun, even on impossible. It's not that hard, the plasma cutter's the best gun in the game anyway. Makes things more intense when you're picking up ammo for weapons you "don't have" for that particular playthrough, too.

Well with Left 4 Dead pretty much the only game on my "yet to buy" list so far I've gotten a glimpse at quite a few new games this year.

While I'm having a great time with Gears 2, Fallout 3, the little bit that I've played of COD5 and way too many other games to list, I have to say without a doubt Dead Space gets my personal GOTY award.

Great job E.A. :techman:

Sorry to resurrect this thread but the game is well worth it.
During this past week I talked one of my friends into getting Dead Space.
Just so you know this gut is a very, very casual gamer.
His whole library consists of 4 games over a year and a half of having the 360.
He just called me because he is stuck in the game and needed some help.
He then informed me he was on a five and a half hour marathon.
Coming for him that is hilarious.

I also let him borrow Dead Space: Down Fall and he liked that as well.
