DEAD SPACE is here! Discussion thread ...

^Ooof! Good to know ... sometimes you simply can't beat a controller for shooters (though it's the other way around, I feel, for RTS ... mouse and keyboard are better in that case).

I'm currently stuck on the Valor, getting my ass handed to me in this one corridor.

the game just come out today over here, its a stunning game (plus no screen tearing which is rare for a modern game with such amazing graphics) really like the lack of HUD on screen, creepy atmosphere and blowing off limbs of monsters is fun

Yeah it really does seem like the "perfect" game.
I HAVE YET TO FIND ANYTHING I DON'T LIKE ABOUT IT!!!!

Fighting the boss in Chapter 12 now.

Enjoy!!

OK just finished the game and all I have to say is this....

WHAT A FANTASTIC GAME!!!

And that ending is "screaming" for a sequel!!!

Bring on part 2!!!!

Naturally I started a new game and what a treat it was to start off with all your weapons in tact.

In the beginning of my original game when you where told you to run, you better damn sure run.
Well new when I got told to run I just stood there and said "FUCK YOU Mr. Necromorph, eat this".

Did I mention I love this game?

I'm going to pick up this game in a bit. Probably won't start it until much later though.

Got it yesterday...
It's a really fun and interresting game...
No sci-fi weapons but sci-fi tools as weapons...
Great art design as well...
The monsters are indeed grotesque...
Having all important info displayed on the character and the weapons works very well...

I'm not really feeling it so far, but that might be because I've got the PC version and the controls just feel wrong.

I don't suppose it supports the Xbox 360 controller ?

Yeah the link I posted above was saying something about the controls in the PC version.

"
For all our hardcore PC audience, that means everyone of you, we recently got hands on with an early copy of EA’s Dead Space for the PC. Good news? It’s still Dead Space!
Bad news? The controls are 2nd to the worst controls we’ve seen ever since Path of Neo came to the PC platforms. The smoothness compared to consoles is just not there, and from what we can tell it doesn’t seem like a patch can fix most of the issues. Inventory stack access becomes frustrating when fighting with monsters and aiming for on-the-fly changes. The controls just aren’t smooth. When contacting EA Redwood Shores regarding these issues:
Dead Space for PC is an equivalent experience to that on consoles. The controls are different and customizable, but we feel it’s in the best ability for the players to match what the console experience is like.
It’s ironic that it needs to be argued that it matches the console experience from the controls in EA’s eyes. The fact isn’t a matter of customization as much as it’s just not feasible to do most of the mapped controls on the keyboard and still maintain a fluid transition between interface and gameplay. If you have a console, go with the console version of Dead Space. The PC one is just not the same thing. If you’re tight on $20 extra for the console version, rent it and then settle for the PC one after. It’s such a shame."

And it is a shame because the game is one of the best I've played in a very long time.

There is some good news on the second play through.
Although you still do the same tasks the Necromorphs are changed up so they don't attack you (in several areas )the way they did the first time.

And of course it feels different having your upgraded weapons to choose from when you didn't have them in the beginning of your first game.

So it's nice to be able to use, Say the force gun at the beginning of the game when you got it more towards the end it the first.

Another thing I'm noticing is I'm finding more doors to open.
I had to just run in some areas to try to find more ammo/health so I missed a few things.
It's also nice to be able to "Afford" to open other doors that you didn't want to use a node on before.
All in all another thing I like about the game is it's new found Re-playability factor.

Edit to add: Getting the Valor's military suit is Kick Ass too!!

I understand E.A. not allowing you to fully upgrade all your weapons, Equipment and to get all of the achievements the first go around is a cheap/sneaky way to get you to replay the game but in this case I think it works and I really don't mind because It takes the cool, slow moving horror game and turns it into a kick ass, fast paced shooter!
So in essence it feels like two games in one.

Good job E.A.

Now I'm getting my ass handed to me in Chapter 10!

After I pick up the third nav card that horrifying regenerating necromorph chases me as I keep getting pounded by the other baddies - no way out ... I'm playing on Hard difficulty - I can't imagine what impossible difficulty is like

well, yes I can ... it's probably impossible.

LOL yeah chapter 10 was a bear!

Let just say all the help you need is in the little room beside the shuttle. ;)

I'm having a blast the second go around!!

I can't wait for the animation next week.

Just started Chapter 8 last night. The upgraded weapons and armor really help a lot.
I'm kinda interested to see how hard impossible mode is too.
I sure would like to tackle it with the upgraded weapons.

I don't know if I'll get all the achievements, I don't think I'd want to make a 4th run through with just the plasma cutter for the one gun Achievement and I still haven't got the gunner seats ones.

I just don't see a 4th run right now with the ever growing stack of new games I have.

I think you can still get the one gun achievement if you go through on Easy with the plasma cutter, yes?

I've tried it on easy just to see what it's like, and it's definitely very easy (one hit will slice right through a limb, and there's a lot more ammo).

Yeah, I'm playing through easy mode because I'm a big pussy. This type of game is really intense for me and I can't play for extended periods of time before I lose my nerves. I don't think my character would even leave the ship on hard mode.

I think so.
I wonder if the seat gunner part is easier?
Maybe I try getting those three at a later date on the medium setting.
I want a little bit of challenge.

No offense meant TheBoo.
I will fully admit the game damn near made me shit my pants quite a few times.
