Dead Space 2 announced, detailed

Consider it bought. Loved the first game, so picking up the second is a no-brainer.

Definately looking forward to the sequel. Dead Space is one of the highlights from this generation.

OK I just played Dead Space for the first time just now. It was pretty creepy and scary and atmospheric. Definitely reminds me of Bioshock. The only thing that annoys me is you have to hold a button to run. I despise any game that doesn't let you run constantly :p

Didn't they strongly imply Isaac died at the end of the first game? Are we going to get a dream sequence write off?

I enjoyed the first, I'll probably get the second. I need to buy the first to play through again though. I think I'm getting Dead Space: Extraction for Christmas too.

Well before it was announced that he was surviving to be in the second game, there was a fair amount of discussion as to whether the 'Nicolemorph' was actually real or a manifestation of Isaac going batshit insane after everything that happened*. Also, a fair few people refuse to believe after all the massive claws and jaws eating away at his neck and face during the game, and subsequently getting the Isaac Boot(tm) to the face, that a single 'weak' Necromorph could beat him so quickly.

*pointing to how, even though she looked necro'd, she wasn't completely which was never seen before, so perhaps like his hallucination about the recording being incomplete, when it had really shown that she had committed suicide in the recording*

It probably makes more sense for it to be a hallucination given the Nicole necromorph would have to crawl across the ship, hide in the shuttle then wait to specifically attack Isaac. I just took it more as the cheap-scare-everyone-dies ending horror movies have fallen in love with in recent years.

A few days later I'm already half way done with Dead Space 1! This is a great game. Really scares the crap out of me. I played it a bunch last night then woke in the middle of the night from a horrible nightmare :D I just beat the Leviathan marking the half way point of the game. I would say Bioshock is the better game though... less scary, but better setting and story.

I can still vividly recall scares in Bioshock like the dentist and the paper mache statues but nothing from Dead Space has stuck with me. I think the scares were so often and so Hollywood standard they lost their impact.

I dunno, when it comes to Bioshock, there was the initial creepiness with it, but it didn't take long for the game to start feeling like a shooter with bizarre powers and bizarre targets. The story was very good though, it made the game feel more like a tragedy story, rather than a horror one, but then I didn't quite complete it. Should probably do that at some point :p

From Joystiq:
In an inspiring attempt to try and take even more gratuitous liberties with the works of Dante Alighieri, Visceral Games has announced a Europe-only special edition bundle of its upcoming Hell-based action title, Dante's Inferno. The "Death Edition" bundle comes with a copy of the poem, some making-of documentaries, and an art book. However, its greatest bonus is a new skin for the game's scythe-wielding protagonist: The slot-helmeted outfit of Dead Space's hero, Isaac Clarke.

There were rumors that DS 2 would see Issac start in a mental hospital and the Nicole thing was the first sign of his mind just giving up on him, which would affect him throughout the sequel (sort of F.E.A.R ish mind images popping up now and again).

Time to finish Dead Space 1 then I guess. I got hung up on a part that was hard to get past. When there's too many enemies, and not being a fast first person shooter, it got sluggish to try and kill all the creatures coming at me. Got distracted by Modern Warfare 1 and 2, Batman, Portal, and World at War.
Yeah, time to get back to Dead Space.
