I don't know what else VOYAGER could've done about having troubled Captain Janeway a pernicious suitor in the form of Q. Kate Mulgrew didn't want Kathryn to have any boyfriends, though she did have a holodeck fantasy, or two, as I recall. Of course, she had a beau back home named Mark Johnson, but other than that there was only Chakotay's pining and waiting in the wings to fill the void. And had Q been a prick, basically, his episodes would've really worked on VOYAGER, but they had to turn him into a Family Man (!!!) fighting for Truth, Justice & the American Way in the Q Continuum -- much to the character's degradation. On TNG, Q had a softer side, it's true. For example, when he thanked Data with The Gift of Laughter. And, of course, when he allowed Picard to revisit his past, when he (Picard) died. And that was enough. If he was a prick the rest of the time, it worked. The Q are not to be trifled with and will abuse their power, whenever the urge comes over them. Having De Lancie's "Q" explore his softer side in VOYAGER didn't make any frigging sense .... whatsoever. He's billions of years old and he's immortal. His personality's pretty well established. However, as absurd as it was giving him a Q-wife (!!!), the danger her jealousy almost put Captain Janeway in always gives me a chuckle. VOYAGER should've made her more of a "real" threat to Kathryn, but that's not why Q was given a wifey, in the first place. No. Q's got responsibilities, now. He's growing up ... and becoming a Man!
