DC's Going to Reboot ... Again? I'm Sorry, Rebirth.

What's the distinction of Henry from all other Supermen?

(Or his World of Metropolis/Krypton?)

Lois becomes a redhead? Perry white becomes black?

Hmmmm?

Skuttlebutt is saying that Scoot McNairy might end up being Jimmy?

(Double) Hmmm...

Carrie Ferris is in this again.

Still no certainty that she is Carol Ferris.

or just completely reboot the line, all books (not holding back on Green Lantern and Batman) to make them all more contemporary.
This is what needed to happen with Crisis, and every one of these events since - their refusal to let go of this beloved element or that has been like Annorax being unable to correct the timeline on Voyager.

They also need someone or a small team of someones to create an overarcing timeline with "fixed points" for the whole DC universe, and then maintaining continuity, so that writers can tell the stories they want to tell so long as they don't conflict with what came before and so long as they lead into and out of those major events in the timeline.
So setting everything back to before Crisis on IInfinite Earths.
That was my take on how Convergence ended - Convergence #8 being the first DC comic I've read in over a decade. And last, because it gave me what I wanted back - the pre-Crisis multiverse - at least in my mind, and all they can do from here is what they've proven they'll do over and over again: screw it all up and piss me off.

I think whateverhappens in DC comics (and probably Marvel too) from here on will inevitably be bringing the comics more into line with the movie and TV versions. Comics despite being the 'source material' are very much the poor (well, much less profitable) relations, picking up readers from screen fans has got to be seen as a factor.

My general response to this news was....

This seems to be the general comics buying public's response as well,

Well, Marvel Comics seems to be doing all they can to make their comics (in general) far from the movies, and based on the fact that they seem to have better sales then DC, it seems to be working for them. Sure, you'll see the old characters come back as the movies come out, like Steve Rogers (thankfully) getting deaged and becoming Captain America agaiun in the comics, but I doubt we'll ever see Marvel Comics try to go in line with the movies outside of pushing a character(s) to the front when a certain movie comes out.

I couldn't agree more, I've long felt for example that the Christopher Reeve Superman as become something of the definitive take on the character as opposed to any incarnation of the comics, at least in the minds of the public.

A new possibility about "Rebirth" -- it doesn't refer to the DC Universe at all, but instead to DC's relaunch of the Hanna-Barbera properties, with designs by Jim Lee, Amanda Conner, Darwyn Cooke, and many more.
Either way there is going to be some sort of soft reboot and creator change on many of the titles such as Aquaman, Titans and Wonder Woman. The popular theory is following issue 52 for the ongoings that has been around since the start of Nu52.

Only because of Disney's marketing of TFA. SW while DH owned the license dramatically underperformed and was not a top seller.

Wow. Really? I enjoyed the Dark Horse Star Wars comics. The new Marvel comics aren't as bad as I feared they might be, but still not as good as Dark Horse so far. Marvel is constrained by all the new movies and comics coming out and thus far have been conservative, and sticking to the prequel and original trilogy eras. Dark Horse was all over the timeline.
